Do you think this would be feasibly possible? If so, how best to go about starting it?

Yes, it’s possible. I would recommend keeping the following in mind:

1. Understand that you will be called a cult from the get-go. You can combat this image in the public eye by doing good, allowing your followers to think freely, not trying to kill people (or yourselves), etc. However, understand further that if do these things while it is true that you will combat the image of being a cult, you will also likely have a looser connection between your followers than you might desire. It’s a delicate balance.

2. Write a book but don’t publish it through a mainstream press. The book should also not be published in a solely electronic medium; even in today’s age people will still prefer to have a tangible tome. It will help a bit if your book is divinely inspired.

3. Base your religion’s archetypal events on historical events. For this, it might be necessary to learn a bit of history. This will help boost the credibility of your religion’s claims in the long-term future as your descendants/future adherents can then claim that these historical events were notated by your followers today - thus validating any claims you may make about your divinity, etc.

4. A lot of people will tell you that it will help your cause to have a savior. Unfortunately the world is really saturated with saviors, messiahs, prophets etc. Personally, I think that the whole process needs a fresh approach. Perhaps you can base it on the coming of an alien benefactor or something. Actually, I think that’s been done too. The point is: try to do something new and exciting. That’s just my advice.

4a. As a corollary to #4 above, I would definitely suggest a martyr or martyrs. The world’s fascination with these has not waned.

5. Related to #3 above, I’d suggest going back through the history books and picking people to have belonged to your faith. You can misquote these people - or at least misattribute their quotes - to be in line with your beliefs. If you choose to have a series of prophets, it may be appropriate to choose someone obscure but historically verifiable as one of the first. Again, I don’t necessarily recommend you go the “prophet” route but if you choose to, this is one of the better ways.

There are a lot more suggestions but this will get you started. Oh, one more: if possible, utilize a futuristic technology that others will not recognize as such to perform “miracles”. That seems to be favorable amongst some folks. Good luck with your new religion!

If this was a serious question, why the lol? Anyone can start their own religion, (in fact if you're good at it, it could be quite lucritive) but you would have to be confident and persuasive otherwise you won't get anyone to subscribe to your religion.

Baha'i (spelling?) is a recently made up religion that includes many others. Mormonism is definitely a recently made up one. Recent in the last few hundred years.

Note: all religions are made up, just some are more obviously attempts to make up a religion than to answer questions about why are we here....

Yes, but you would be competing against the other mainstream religions; christianity islam etc.. and they would most likely refuse to recognise you as they wouldn't want you to steal their followers, you would be called a cult.

The best way to start a religion is to create propaganda telling people to believ in your cause, this needs to be done through vague promises of something good in the distant future and an element of fearl eg if they don't follow and do everything you say they will go to hell etc... Also you need to convince them of your greatness and tell them to send you money; they must believe they are doing something very good and heroic by sending you their money... good luck.

yes. in the philippines- where i live- this is very true. and yes you are right about religion being a human creation whether singularly or collectively. in the philippines, we have the aglipayan- a church created by someone named aglipay, rizalistas ( this is i believe a religion worshipping our national hero jose rizal as a god and the katipuneros- revolutionaries against both the spanish and the americans- as saints), the iglesia ni kristo.... and so many more.

First you need to declare yourself king of some area and force the people that lived in the area to practice your religion. Then after a few generations you would have your own religion.

Check out Moses in the desert. That's how he did it.

Yes, all mankind have in one way or another his own method or way of seeking God, and thus "religion...ing"

It is when you are certain that the one you found out is the all embracing truth that you stop "religion...ing and thus it becomes your way of life.

It is in that "crossroad" that you stop "religion... ing or creating more your own religion cause by then you are with God and your ways of life is that of God.
