No self-respecting doctor would just give someone regular blood transfusions without first thoroughly testing a person. You need to talk with your doctor, or the person you're curious about (I'm sure if you were the one receiving the transfusions, you'd know why). But, generally, no, blood transfusions could be needed for other reasons.
