Go thru AnnualCreditReport.com. That site was set up by the credit bureaus to provide the free credit reports online.
FreeCreditReport.com is often mistaken as being an actual free site. You get a free 30 day membership and can get your reports and score. But you've signed up for monitoring service and will be charged monthly or annually, depending on their current deal. It is very difficult to cancel.

The actual credit report is free once a yr from each of the 3 major credit bureaus. Howevre, the credit "score" you have to pay for. The score can also vary slighty between the major major credit reports....so if you are making a major purchase like a car or home....make sure that you know all three scores. Some places will use the lowest score when deciding on your interest rate...so be careful!

If this is on the freecreditreport site, they do give you a free report and try to get you to sign up for a monthly coverage, but you don't have to accept that. I got a free copy from the 3 credit companies, and found out that I'm entitled to a free report from each of them every year. Plus, they send me an email letting me know, plus for a small fee, they'll even throw in my credit score.
For me, it was helpful and next year, I'll get my free report again.

They sign up up ask for a credit card and give you a free first report, the following month they give you another and charge your card. If you do it cancel prior to the second report is done.

You see the cheese but not the trap. Read the fine print. There is an address that gives you your credit report free every six months.

they will give the credit report for free, but if you want your actual credit score, thats what they usually charge (and they usually try to sign you up for some type of credit check service)

It is fraud, because none of these things are really free. You have to subscribe to something, or buy something.
