i called the dr to see if she would like to move the appt up and the nurse said her son did the same thing around the time she started potty training....but she is going to speak w/ the dr and make sure she doesnt want him to come in earlier...she said i would have noticed a decrease in his diapers and a smell neither of which he has.....

Yes, it is quite possible your son has a UTI. As for rushing him to the dr or not, in case it is a UTI, you best hope it doesn't go to his kidneys. A kidney infection is worse.
To help him feel better, have him drink water, juices, cranberry juice (for his age watered down).
Please, no bubble baths, etc.
Depending on how long this has been going on, the sooner he gets seen, the better.
When I was a little girl, I had several UTI's so I learned the not-so-fun way of no bubble baths, no perfumed soaps in "that area", etc. There are antibiotics, thankfully. It might be the soap you are using that may be too harsh for him-or just not getting enough fluids daily.
Please, whenever your son is hurting like this, don't "not rush" him to the dr., get an appt asap.
By the way, is he still in diapers? I hope so. If you are potty training him at 18 months, that is rather young. Closer to 2 1/2 to 3 yrs. of age is better.
Take care.
