Immersion. German is a real challenge. If you can afford an extended visit in that beautiful country, you won't regret it. I was determined to learn the basic greetings and phrases that are an important part of the German day-to-day culture. It was time and effort well spent.

If you really want to learn it you need to be around people that speak it. Learning from a book can only get you so far.. and you will pick it up much faster if you actually try to talk to others that speak German.

take it in school, hire a tutor or both. i took it both in high school and in college, it will be hard work but you are learning a whole new language, so it will be tought, but a lot of words in german sound and spelled a lot like their english counterpart. just take your time and practice a lot.
