How can you be so sure that Jesus taught he was lord?

Now, i'm not saying this because i'm Muslim, i'm saying this because while sitting in my history lecture, my professor was talking about the spread of christianity and happened to mention Jesus as half man half God.

Someone yelled out "But Jesus never taught us that".

Now, is this the cause of different interpretations of the Bible, or is there some other reason why some Christians, or denominations of, don't believe in the trinity?

Another thing: It's hard to believe the whole speech of 3 forms 1 body, because a lot of the times, some christians tell me that Jesus IS God.. and other times people say they worship God-- but Jesus was the lord?

Anyway, i'm not trying to be disrespectful--just curious

--CHRIST NEVER even suggested the "trinity", nor did the christianity that others practiced, IN TRUTH

--CONSTANTINE THE murderer forced that perverted teaching on the state of Rome and PUNISHED people who would not believe that obsenity!

2) And why do we not find unbelieving Jews, who bitterly and passionately opposed Christianity, attacking the doctrine that to them would have been abhorrent? No doctrine would have been surrounded by more controversy!
--Thus, Professor Norton observed:
“It appears, then, that while other questions of far less difficulty (for instance, the circumcision of the Gentile converts) were subjects of such doubt and controversy that even the authority of the Apostles was barely sufficient to establish the truth, this doctrine [the Trinity], so extraordinary, so obnoxious, and so hard to be understood, was introduced in silence, and received without hesitation, dislike, opposition, or misapprehension.”

verse commonly used to support the divinity of Jesus is John 8:58: “Jesus said unto them, ‘Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.’ ” This verse is taken to imply that Jesus existed prior to his appearance on earth. The conclusion drawn from it is that Jesus must be God, since his existence predates his birth on earth. However, the concept of the pre-existence of the prophets, and of man in general, exists in both the Old Testament, as well as in the Qur‘aan. Jeremiah described himself in The Book of Jeremiah 1:4-5 as follows: “ 5Now the word of the Lord came to me saying, 5 ‘Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you; I appointed you a prophet to the nations.’ ”
Prophet Solomon is reported in Proverbs 8:23-27, to have said, “23Ages ago I was set up at the first, before the beginning of the earth. 24When there were no depths I was brought forth, when there were no springs abounding with water, 25Before the mountains had been shaped, before the hills, I was brought forth; 26before he had made the earth with its fields, or the first of the dust of the world 27When he established the heavens, I was there.”
According to Job 38:4 and 21, God addresses Prophet Job as follows: “4Where were you when I laid the foundation of the earth? Tell me, if you have understanding... 21You Know, for you were born then, and the number of your days is great!”

In the Qur‘aan, Chapter al-A‘raaf, (7):172, God informed that man existed in the spiritual form before the creation of the physical world.
“When your Lord gathered all of Aadam’s descendants [before creation] and made them bear witness for themselves, saying: ‘Am I not your Lord?’ They all replied: Yes indeed, we bear witness. [That was] so you could not say on the Day of Judgement: ‘We were unaware of this.’ ”

No Jesus isn't half man half God (like say Hercules), he was simultaneously fully man and fully God.

Throughout history, some have questioned whether or not Jesus taught that. The orthodox position is that he did.

When he said, "before Abraham was, I am", he was identifying himself as God in a way that the Jews would have found unmistakable. In addition, he made many other statements that can only be understood sensibly if Jesus was treating himself as equal with God (he was Lord of the Sabbath, he forgave sins, to know him was to know God, he was the good sheperd, etc. etc.).

The doctrine of the Trinity as we have it today was not explicitly revealed in the Bible, but we have had to formulate it from what the Bible does reveal. It does appear that the authors of the New Testament held that belief or something very close.

The Trinity is that the Father is God, the Son is God and the Spirit is God, but there are not three Gods but one God. We understand that to mean that one divine being has three centres of will and reason, so that the Son can submit to the Father's will.

Likewise Jesus Christ is God the Son having taken upon himself human form, so that he is fully man and fully God.

Usually college professors are secular and not religious, so do not go by what they say....about any religion.

I have seen the need for a detailed discussion of this issue, which would be too detailed for yahoo. I think there is a history of the church being ignorant about what they believe...and not putting enough thought into the scriptures, so they guess what must be true. People can either be wrong, or have a right conclusion with the wrong reasoning. Since this is an issue with muslims, jews and christians, i addressed it in a small booklet I prepared. I am getting it changed into a pdf format in the next few days. You are welcome to read it.

But to give a short response...Jesus did say he was the son of God, NOT God, who is the Father in heaven. He pre-existed in heaven with the father before he came to earth. He never taught he was equal to the Father, which is indicated in the traditional view of the trinity. What Jesus taught is a blend of what muslims believe and what christians believe. I can understand why christians confuse muslims on this. there is not one body and 3 forms....jesus never said that. There are 3 in heaven....but they are not equal....God is the father....Jesus and the holy spirit serve the Father god.

an analogy
God is like a king. Jesus is like a prince, or son of a king..the king is royal, and so is his son, the prince........only the king is king....and the prince does not try to take his father's place....he is obedient to him.....There is ONLY one king.....and there is ONLY one God.

the king is royalty....and so is the prince...just because he is the son..........he shares in the nature of his father......so in the same way, God is divine, and so is Jesus....Jesus shares in the divinity of his father ....just as you are human and you share the human nature of your father......this does not make you your father....

It is God the Father's decision how he has organized heaven. He has decided to give Jesus and the holy spirit divine qualities, in order that they have the power and authority to carry out His will.

Jesus always said to pray to the Father, and mention his name to obtain favor....that the Father was greater than he was....

Jesus was not half man & half God, he was a sinless man, If the trinity people try to make Jesus God then they would have to say God died, God is a spirit & never will & can not die. Now Jesus many times said I am come in my fathers name, That shows he was the Son of God. Now many tries to say that Jesus never try to let people know that he wa the Son of God, Turn to St. Matthew 27:11 And Jesus stood before the governor & the governer asked him, saying art thou the King of the Jews? & Jesus said unto him, THOU SAYEST. He never one time denied it, & how can people come up ith the ideal that he was the Son of God if Jesus did not say he was the son of God, Plus Jesus also says that he can not do anything unless his Father(God) shows him Jesus also said that he must be about his father's business. I think many times Jesus had said something that would cause the people to ask him is he the Son of God, & when they asked him he NEVER denied it but said thou sayest that I am. Even John The Baptize said many times behold the LAMB of GOD

Jesus is the way to God the father. He is the way to heaven. Jesus was a man put on this earth to suffer and die for all our sins.

Something I don't understand about Islam, I am not being disrespectful, just curious as well.

Can you please explain this verse from the Koran to me?

Sura (3:151) - Soon shall We cast terror into the hearts of the Unbelievers, for that they joined companions with Allah, for which He had sent no authority.

This speaks directly of killing Christians, since they believe in the Trinity (ie. what Muhammad incorrectly believed to be 'joining companions to Allah').

Here are a few others:

Sura (8:12) - I will cast terror into the hearts of those who disbelieve. Therefore strike off their heads and strike off every fingertip of them

Sura (9:30) - And the Jews say: Ezra is the son of Allah; and the Christians say: The Messiah is the son of Allah; these are the words of their mouths; they imitate the saying of those who disbelieved before; may Allah destroy them; how they are turned away!

Bukhari (52:177) - Allah's Apostle said, "The Hour will not be established until you fight with the Jews, and the stone behind which a Jew will be hiding will say. "O Muslim! There is a Jew hiding behind me, so kill him."

These quotes are directly from the Koran and you can't deny that. Is this what children are being taught, to hate? Is this truly a religion of peace? Why can't we live and let live?

God Bless

God the father, God the son (Jesus) God the Holy spirit, ( after Jesus rose from the dead) they are all one,

Jesus is God manifested in the flesh. Its not polytheisim as most people try and pin the trinity as having 3 gods. There is only one allmight, alllpowerfull, allknowing God. He is the creator.

Its not like he is half God and half man. Where that came from only God knows. He is God mainifested in the flesh.

Manifest means---1.To show or demonstrate plainly; reveal: "Mercedes . . . manifested the chaotic abandonment of hysteria" (Jack London).
2.To be evidence of; prove.

So, Jesus was evidence that God existes.

I hope I have answered your question thoughly enough. God Bless and Have a great day!

See a million John 5:7-8. it fairly is is initially the place the belief comes from. i do no longer accept as true with Tertullian's diagram regardless of the shown fact that, that makes God and the father and the Holy Spirit seem separate. God is the father and the Bible tells us that God is Spirit. that comparable Holy Spirit dwells interior the Son (human flesh of Jesus Christ).

You are right, it is the cause of different interpretations. But the thing is, if you, look, to what the Bible says it is clear about who Jesus is. Does the Bible say that Jesus and God are equal? No Jesus himself said that his Father knows more than the Son(Matthew24:36)and that his Father is greater than he is(John14:28)
Did the angel Gabriel tell Mary that she would give birth to God? No, he said that Jesus would be called God's Son(John3:17)
Did God say, at Jesus baptism, and dedication to God,that he was God in human form? No He said this is my Son(Matthew3:17)
Does the Bible say that God came to the earth? No it says that God sent his Son (John3:17)What about Jesus himself who did he say he was?Jesus said he is God's Son(John10:36)Bible evidence shows overwhelmingly, not just in one verse, but many, that Jesus is God's Son, not God.

Jesus is not "half man half God". He is 100% Man and 100% God.

What always gets me about these questions is why do you think a human brain can comprehend the limitlesness and vastness of God? We can't. God abhors the fact that we worship false Gods, including images of Himself.

Jesus is the Son of God incarnate. The Son existed for eternity as did the Father and the Holy Spirit. This is one God. The trinity is our attempt to understand God.

Here is the truth. There is one God. Jesus is God, the Father is God, the Holy Spirit is God.
