The advantages of living in Australia is that there isn't going to be a coup in the next five minutes, you won't find armed soldiers and barbed wire at state lines (though you will find fruit checking stations - nasty, dangerous stuff, that fruit, can't have it moving about the country!), there aren't huge fields of poppies or other illicit crops being used to prop up a corrupt government or any of those other things that can make travelling around the world precarious.
We are one of the most stable and peaceful countries on the planet. People are generally friendly, courteous and will usually go out of their way to help an overseas traveller.
At first, you might think that because Australia has about fourteen species of lethally-venomous snakes (and 7 or 8 of those are in the Top 10 in the world), that may be a disadvantage; or, perhaps because there are deadly funnel-web spiders and red-back spiders found commonly around residential areas; or, maybe because the rivers and oceans conceal blue-ringed octupii, box-jellyfish, stone-fish and the worst of all, the tiny Irukanji jellyfish from Nth Queensland.
But some people (Steve Irwin ring a bell?) regard these things as special to Australia. I agree.
If any bookworms out there want to get a taste of Australia from an American/English perspective, I hugely recommend reading Bill Bryson's "Down Under". It's an eye-opener!

Well I live in Australia so hopefully I can help. Advantages of Britain: *Not nearly as severe weather. It can be 40 c or higher in some parts. Average is around 25 - 30 c. *Not as many dangerous animals - we don't have as many as people think, but in some parts. They aren't all in your backyard. Disadvantages of Britain: *More populated *Not nearly as sunny Hmm I can't think of much else at the moment. And to the person who said they have seasons in England - that's the same for the rest of the world too.

It is the best place in the world to live. We will get rid of the only disadvantage, the prime minister, at the next Federal Election in a month or two.

I hear that life there is slower paced than in the major N.American cities. I also heard from a family friend it took two weeks for their phone line to be hooked up, where here its like three days.

Austrailia is beautiful from many different angles, but what scares me the most is the jellyfish in the ocean. In some places, there are nets to keep the jellyfish out of swimming areas, but some jellys are so tiny, they still get through!
