My boyfriend has arthitis in his back and sciatica and is always in pain. The doctor gave him loratabs and is suppose to take 1 every 4-6 hours. He's been on them for a few months now and he says that if he doesn't take them his whole body feels like crap. He wants to stop taking them but everytime he tries he gets horrible withdraws from them and starts taking them again just to get rid of the crappy feeling. I know no matter what he's going to have withdraws but is there anything I can do to make it not so rough on him?

Your bf should talk to his doctor about stopping the meds. His physician can recommend an appropriate weaning regimen. There are also other medications to aid in the withdrawal symptoms. Good luck.

First he needs to check with his doctor. Sometimes they will prescribe another medication to help with the withdraw. But your boyfriend should start extending the time period between doses. After a few days of that he can cut the pills in half and only take half of a pill every say 6 to 8 hours. Gradual weening off pain meds is a lot safer than going cold turkey.

Here is what I suggest You have your boyfriend due to get over the worst part of the withdrawals.

To help with the withdrawals take hot bathes with 2c. of dissolved Epsom salts and soak for 30 minutes. The skin is the biggest organ of elimination and this will help pull out the drugs. Use a loofa to clean the pores and this will help pull the drugs out even faster.

I recommend you drink purified water mixed with mineral water 50/50. This will replace the minerals that are exiting your body continuously.

I suggest that adults and children drink 40 ounces of water per 100 pounds of body weight every day and 2c. a day of fresh carrot juice, to flush the medicine out of your liver. Taking 500mg of calcium and magnesium twice a day will help you to relax.

Drink chamomile tea throughout the day and evening to help you stay relaxed.

Use a powdered fiber supplement twice daily to pull the drugs out of your intestines where they store.

Two of the questionnaires in this forum did follow this program to withdraw from drugs and it did help. I've enclosed a link where you can read their response to this program.
