my sister and her husband moved and left their car... its unregistered now... and has been for along time since they dont use it anymore. after they bought their new car... its in my driveway... i was wondering can i just go register it anyways with out the pink slip or whatever?

if the car is worth the trouble and nothing is wrong with it ask your sister & brother in law if they will sign it over to you if they no longer want it once they do that then you can register it in your own name
but make sure the car is worth all that
no use doing it if car needs work done on it is possible it's been left as it's a non runner

It's best if you have either one of them send you a bill of sale. That way, it's perfectly legal. Although, depending upon how long the car sat there on your property, you may be entitled to claim ownership at any rate.

Easy enough to have some Joe Blow friend write up a bill of sale and "sell" it to you, but if your sister and/or husband don't like what you've done or still claim possession of the car... you might be up against a charge of theft and fraud. Remember also, the registry office has the entire history of the car via a few keystrokes. Bottom line, get their permission and a bill of sale. :)

You would find it hard to register it without a title in your name. It would also be illegal.
