Why not just say, "Hey we're married, we love each other so we are married". Leave God and the state and everyone else out of it, because it's just between the two of them. Why do gays need appovel from anyone else, just do it. Wouldn't that save a lot trouble.

Why don't straight people do that? Well, here's a couple reasons - taxes, I couldn't claim someone I just live with as a dependent on my taxes.... Insurance, I have to prove I have a REALLY good reason to cover a person who is not married to me or family (hell, well all know most of the time that insurance companies don't want to cover the one's paying for the insurance anyway).

I can understand a Church turning them down. It is their right to do so. I do not see, however, how people can claim that the Gov't shouldn't have anything to do with it. When ANYONE goes to get married, Christian, Pagan, etc... in order for the Gov't or any other organized company to recognize it, you have to go to the court house first and get a license to do it. It isn't sanctioned by any religion - it's Gov't sanctioned and for a reason. Money. So why shouldn't they pay just like the rest of us?

Just like heteros, we can't just do that and have the marriage recognized by the state and have the rights, benefits and responsibilities attached to marriage. Otherwise I couldn't care less about the approval from you or your icon.

In that case then why don't straight couples do that? Oh wait they wont as they would lose out on all of the Marriage benefits.

Heteosexual couples do exactly that when they live together.

I think the homosexual community would reject your suggestion because they are not just looking for happiness in their relationship but they also want society to affirm them.

Do you want heterosexuals to do that too?

Do you want them to give up a right you take for granted?
