Every time i move my head, or stand up, cough e.t.c it really hurts and the pain feels like it shooting to the front. It has happened about 2 times this year and lasts for days. Does anyone know what it could be? and how i could get rid or ease it? I have a 16month old to look after hes having a nap at the moment but i cant even pick him up. Please Help!!

If you can take anti-inflammatories, (preferably ibuprofen or naproxen) then I'd recommend trying that for now. Remember to always take them with some food.

Its hard to say from here what it is.. but it could be several things.. sleeping wrong, muscle spasm.. or it could be a condition called pleurisy. http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/pleurisy/DS00244

I was thinking pleurisy mainly because you mentioned coughing being problematic. Do deep breaths also hurt?

Pleurisy also can take a while to heal, and comes in varying severity. I used to get it several times when I was younger, and usually started as strange back type pain then progressed. I also experienced a "shooting" to the front pain as well. Mine was "caused" by an overload of allergens, leaving me susceptible to infection, so for me antihistamines helped a lot.

But I'd start with the anti-inflammatory medications, and if they don't work.. go see your doctor. It could be something as simple as you pulled a muscle.. but if pain meds won't work.. you really need to have it checked out for sure.

Hope you get to feeling better soon.

Husband gets that all of the time and the physical therapist aggressively rubs a small muscle that runs from the neck down to that muscle (up by the neck), across the muscle. It aches when he does it yet it releases the tension on the muscle you speak of.

Don't take medical advice in here. You may have something serious like walking pneumonia. Get to a doctor immediately before you wind up in a hospital. What other people say was their pain doesn't mean it's your pain!!
