Why don't Americans speak English? A couple of hundred years ago they were the same language. It's called divergence. There are language families, which are groups of languages with the same root sounds and meanings. The languages have diverged from the root languages used in the past as people spread out.

Long ago, before Christ, there is only one language spoken but early people became so ambitious that they wanted to be like God... So, God used his powers against people to teach them lesson...
You could read the whole story in old testament of the Christian bible.... the story of : The Tower of Babel....
however, i don't know what particular chapter in the bible it was written....

At one point in time people all had only one language. But their ignorance made God mad, so he confused their language and scattered them about the world. That is where we get different countries, and languages. Please read
