I don't know...are their natural habitats dissappearing?
I have heard that if you put a fish in a small tank, it stays smaller...if you put it in a large tank it gets bigger.

I don't know if this is true or if it's an old wives tale.

If it's true, maybe the shrinking lakes and rivers, over population, and competition for food are keeping the fish smaller.

Just a guess....

Bass have a short life span,
they will not live over a few yrs,
rapid growth, like trout grow fast die young,
