Do you support or condemn this verse?

Leviticus 20:13 "And if a man lie with mankind, as with womankind, both of them have committed abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them."

No Christian would say it is okay to kill gay people now, but did it use to be okay to do it?

This is supposedly a direct quote from God.

If you read the first verse of Chapter 20, it says that the Lord spoke unto Moses and it proceeds to lay out certain guidelines. If you read every single verse up to 13, you can see that every verse up to this was supposed to have come directly from God.

Did God change his standards after Jesus? I am curious to hear what your thoughts are. I am not trying to be rude. I believe that questioning your beliefs is a healthy thing and I wanted to hear your thoughts.

I do believe there is much to learn from the bible and it is as close as we can get to Gods words. The only thing that causes me pause with the bible is all the Human intervention there has been with it through the years.

Moses was tiring to control the people of Israel by invoking what he said was Gods will. Moses was far from perfect, he was only human. There is no way for us to really know for sure if Moses had added things that weren't from God.

When you read the writings in the Bible sometimes Gods personality seems to change. Even in the new testament there are 4 versions of Jesus' life, written by men that lived with Jesus at the same time. When the Bible was canonized there were a lot of things left out. Some of these writings can be found in the Orthodox Bible. When the bible was transcribed by hand from Hebrew, Latin, Greek and Roman there were mistakes made in interpretation. One word can change the meaning of the whole sentence!

So for myself I keep it simple. I am only responsible for Sins I commit. I am not to Judge others!

John 8:

I would advise you to read the new testament do you remember the ten commandments Jesus said '' Don't think i have come to do away with the law and prophets. I did not come to do away with them but give them full meaning'' Mathew 5:17, I would advise you to not dwell so much into the literary meaning of the word of God, it has more deeper and spiritual meaning than what you see and read. As long as humanity exist and do not seek deeper understanding of God we shall all be destroyed. God never changed any law but brought meaning to people through Jesus Christ and if you read verse 22 of chapter 20 Leviticus you will realize that it says obey my laws and teachings or else the land i am giving you will become sick of you and throw you out" you will realise that there is no how the land its self can throw you out, just as much as it does not mean that people shall be stoned to death for wrong doings.
What God is saying is that if you disobey him he will not listen to you. Then not listening to you means God will neglect you and by so doing your life will be miserable and the environment you live in will not be condusive which will in the end automatically lead to your death because of your sins. The good thing is that God has warned us about all this and we choose to ignore his teachings.

God is very forgiving espessialy after he came to earth in flesh. "I shall make my word flesh" The Entire Law is the guide line for man kind and all sin = Death/Punnishment/Damnation acording to his Law God Hates sin, yet God also say and knows and we know that no one can Not break the Law, I myself probaly break at least 5 of Gods laws every day. That is way god required a sacrifice for our sin, because God needs a life for a life and eye for an eye. The sacrifice of animals was seremonial/ symbolic and important for ones soul. If you read Psalms David writes of how he knows that all the sacrificing dosen't truely take away sin yet God is Mercyfull, an loving to those who love him and fallow his law to the best of human abilites. That is why God Came down to earth in the flesh and Died for all man kind for no man but god could take appon this task but the lord Yeshua(jesus) Read Romans, and Hebrews.

It depends on which of the over 50 translations of the Bible in English you are quoting from.They all have inaccuracies and are not worth worrying about today. All Christians are asked by God to love every person he ever created with unconditional love. Does that seem like an impossible task ?
Well if you love God you love everybody.If you don't love everybody you don't love God. Simple as that.This is all that matters .People are wasting time reading the Bible instead of trying to do what God would like them to do.Time is running out ,there are souls to be saved.

EDIT..I wonder which Christians want to "cure" or get rid of all gay people off the Planet ? My religion wants to do the opposite !

I have been reading the Bible and a lot of the stories in it are just like what goes on today, it is like history repeating itself. I have come across, infidelity, prostitution, stealing, murder, judging, churches being ruined, etc.... Now I have not been reading very long, so I could still come across it, but I have never heard of anyone being gay or lesbian in the Bible. That doesn't mean it's not in there, but I haven't saw it. My point is Jesus came to take away our sins, by that all we have to do is ask forgiveness from them and get to know God more in depth through the Holy Spirit. You can be gay and still have a relationship with God, this is my opinion. Do you really think God cares about all these small things? If he can forgive murderer's, I think he can forgive someone for being gay! You are the one that has no peace about this, read your Bible, pray, and learn about him, the more we take the time for him, the stronger he helps us. Goodluck!

There are a lot of things in the old testament that are very much interesting. And God did lay down the laws there that is why we believe it's a sin to be homosexual. But you are right that God did change his mind about things. He used to want sacrifices from us burnt offerings and such. This was until He sent His only begotten son to earth to live and die for us. God knew we could never be good enough because of our sin nature. So He gave us Jesus as the final sacrifice for us that we could go through Jesus and be saved from our sin nature. the things in the old testament still hold true a sin is a sin. But atonement for them we take through Jesus Christ. God is Awesome. I hope this helped.

If you'd stop cherry picking certain verses here and there and start studying the entire Bible, questions like this would have clear answers.

God has a holy and righteous side. That is depicted in the OLD Testament.

He also has a merciful and gracious side. That is depicted in the NEW Testament.

God established the OT Law for the HEBREWS to teach them a lesson in obedience.

God REPLACED the OT Law with the grace of His Son Jesus in the NT.

If that makes any sense at all, then pick up the Bible FOR THE REST OF THE STORY.

Everyone has one of a kind and person critiques, so for each opinion there's a minimum of one million individual on this planet with the reverse opinion. According to the old testament people can judge other people who disobeyed God's law. After Jesus, the judgment will be done only by Jesus at the end of the world, so no one can judge other in the Godly aspects. Moreover, Jesus Christ is a forgiving God and help those who cannot keep the commandments and deliver from sin in a step by step manner when that person surrender to HIM fully.

Oh dude...you have to put things in perspective. In context. Things were WAAAAY different when this was written. This was the culture. People were put to death for morality crimes back then.

(questions are GOOD! I am glad you are asking these things. Information and intellectual evolution is imparative!!!! Ignorance bad! hehe).

Stick to the New Testament because the Old Testament was like....humankind's childhood. Back then (as the Bible says the wages of sin is death) people had to kill an animal as a sacrifice to God for their sins...because if something else did not die for the sins they commited, that would mean they would have to. But then Jesus came and died as the ultimate sacrifice so we don't have to do that stuff anymore... he did it to set us free from all that.

He said NOW to remember two things: Love God with all your heart and Love others as yourself. That's all we have to worry about now. God takes care of the rest. Everything we do we just have to weigh it against those two things.

he didn't say love only those who believe like you as yourself, he said love others...all others, as if they are yourself.

So whether being gay is a moral issue or not, we are all to love one another and not judge each other. That's not our job. Our job is only to love now. Thank GOD because the old ways were brutal!!!!!

YIKES!!!!! NO!!! God never changes! He did not change his mind. The wages of sin are STILL death...only we don't have to kill the animal anymore...he made it easy for us. Jesus died as that sacrifice so we don't have to do that anymore. all we have to do is believe now. That is not a change of mind, that is a change of circumstance!!!!!!

well without trying to sound too pro or anti anything, it's always safe to assume you should do your best to INTERPRET texts as they applied back then and DECIDE if they apply to you or others now. A lot of people said/wrote things thousands of years ago which may or may not be able to be directly correlated to your life or others lives today.
