One reason i have been scared to totally give my life over to god has been the following.....I have been scared that if i totally surrender my life over that i would no longer enjoy some of the things that make me who i am... For example.. I want to go to school for hair. I also enjoy tattoo's i have 7 of them already.. i alo enjoy music. All types not just christian music. I also have been sfaird that i wouldnt be happy. The thought of totally giving urself over to someone is scary....I mean, its important that im happy. I want to enjoy my life. I like do things that any other person likes. I seems like most Christians spend their life talking about god every chance they, while theres nothing wrong with that....but at the same time..there are other things going on in this world. part of the reason i turned my head from Christianity when i was growing up my mother forced Christianity down my throat, so much that i detested it for years...everything was about god. and i was like mom!

isnt there more to life. we can talk about other things....Christians are very obsessive. i think that we need to remember that we live in a world where big things are happening. I guess i dont want to be one of those christians. I believe that when i get back on track with god. I would go to church on sunday. Do a bible study on a week day. And of course pray and read daily..but thats about it. i dont need to go to retreats or go to 10 different church functions. i dont think those things make you a christian. Its when ppl start going to chruch 7 days week that drama starts to develop? Does anyone understand where i am coming from?>

I hate to disillusion U but I'm a Christian and I don't do any of the things U listed. I don't go to Church as those R man made and they don't study the bible. I don't know if U're ever up that early but there is a theologists on T.V. but it's on at five a.m. but he interprets the bible. To know the "truth", that's what I'm after in life. God loves you and accepts many things. "He gave us free will. Don't be so hard on yourself, be aware, U're mother is her own boss. U have to do what U need to do in your life. It sucks sometimes but for many reasons I don't speak to any siblings, or family members who don't accept me for who I am. Homosexuality is looked on as a weakness that U're giving into. I think I understand that U didn't get up one day and say "oh, groovy I"m going to be gay", life is hard enough. To be aware enough to make a stand at this point in your life is fantastic. I would like to know if your successful. or if you'll refrain from sex or what U're plan is. Life is to be happy, if youre not happy than it makes us do crazy things. For me to be happy is to go on living, to be sad and lonely inside makes me not want to live on, so be happy!!

Relax and calm down a little . . .
First being a Christian does not need to stop you enjoying things, but you may find over time that you find other things become more important.
As an example you like "all sorts of music" that's no problem, no one says you can only listen to "Christian music"
I also agree that "bible basher" are often a pain in the unmentionables . . . While it IS important to a Christan to read and study the bible, it is NOT a neccessity to be able to quote verses at people for every situation, that's why modern bibles have a "TOPIC INDEX" to help you.
If you are thinking about committing your life, NOW is the time to look for a church near you where you can feel comfortable, and yes this might mean a different branch of the church to your Mum. Some churches are quiet, thoughtful and sedate, while others re lively with more modern tunes and a full band. Remember there is nothing in the bible says "Thou shalt worship with dull music in church" in fact I'm pretty sure if he was here today Jesus would be in one of the more modern churches that praise from the heart, NOT from a book they've used every week for the last 100 years.
Best advice though is simply, find some other Christians (not bible bashers, they're different) that are around your own age, talk to them, explain your concerns to them, discuss how you feel about "giving up stuff" they'll have been through a lot of it, and be a lot of help and support. Also look into your OWN heart, and see how you feel . . .
Remember YES there will be things in the Bible make no sense to you at the moment, or seem to contradict each other at a first glance, and people (non Christian people that is) often quote these to "put new Christians off" however after a while you see that the majority that you DO comprehend helps to sort out the rest, and the so called "contradictions" are small segments of text taken out of context.
Ypu can Be yourself, and Be a Christian. However over time the Yourself you are may not be the same Yourself you used to be, your attitudes and though patters will shift somewhat, but that is not a bad thing . . . . often it moves you way from some of the things that maybe were not to good for you, even if you thought you enjoyed them . . .
Hope you can sort yourself out, but seriously, TALK to people . . . real people, in person
P.S. Remeber Jesus went to a number of parties and even brought (sort of) a large quantity of wine to one, so I don't think he was a killjoy do you ?

Why would you think that God wants to suck all the pleasure out of your life if you turn to Him? He isn't anti-pleasure, He's anti-sin. There is a huge difference.
I know that there are some religions that equate pleasure with sin but that is not God's view. After all, who created sex? You think that this is an idea that Satan came up with? No!! God created sex for us and He intended for it to be pleasurable but He also intended it to be experienced in the bonds of marriage. This is for the protection of both partners and the children that may come along.
God won't take anything away from you that both pleases you and pleases Him. Music is another gift from God and it doesn't have to be strictly Christian music. If you are doing something now that you really enjoy but that God considers a sin (rebellion against Him), such as taking drugs, He will remove it from your life but what He will replace it with will be so much better that you won't miss it!
Happiness is a fleeting emotion. One day you are happy the next you are sad. Don't think that even if you turn away from God that you will be happy all the time. Far from it! The chances are even greater that you will be unhappy. God provides joy and peace which are eternal and not transitory.
Christians talk about God because they love Him and are grateful for what He has done for them. But that doesn't mean that every word out of their mouths is about God. Christians have normal conversations just like everyone else. They also appreciate the beauty and joys of the world just like everyone else.
Christians are human. They live, love, laugh, enjoy life, are sad, even sin, just like every other human does. What they do have, which non-Christians do not, is a relationship with the Living God which nothing in this life or the next can take away from them.

I am like you. I grew up being a catholic. Yes I went to a catholic school and by the time I started high school I hated being catholic because it was forced down my throat as well. I came back to God, I gave myself fully to Him because I know I will be Happy with Him watching over me at all times. This makes me happy because I can talk and pray to Him at any given time. I do not need to go to a building to worship God in though because that's not who I am. God is in everyone and everything so I don't need a building. Yeah I will go to church once in a while. Not every week though. I am studying the Bilble in my own time, not in a group.

You are probably more on track then you think. Detoxing from hyper-spiritual environments to get a grip on reality is part of you growing and maturing and choosing your own morals and values. Yes, your parents hope that you will choose the ones they tried to teach you but the dynamic of you finding out for yourself that you love God and his values for yourself is the one that will compel you through life. God has been molding you to show you the type of Christian he will never want you to be. Rather that you are unique and he wants to use you through the vehicles of music, tattoos, culturally relevant devices and such. You are the one that Jesus pursues and died for not the formalism of your parents, God bless them. They will see a new generation love God in a new way.

Your problem is quite evident:
You love the world and not Jesus. Do you know that if you love the world that you are an enemy of God?
Rom 8:7 Because the carnal mind [is] enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.
Jam 4:4 Know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.
You gotta choose man - Jesus or the world?
Is it all worth some 70-80 years of worldly delights only to perish forever in hell? The world will burn up someday. You can live with Jesus forever.
YOUR CHOICE.

Obsessed? More like, thankful for EVERYTHING He has given us. Don't worry about the tattoos. At least now you know they are wrong, right? They harm the Temple of God and if you ask for forgiveness, you will be forgiven. You cannot serve two masters, though. God spews those that are in the "Gray area" out of His mouth. Those in that category will be Left Behind. At that point, there will be no turning back.

Nope, you dont have to be afraid.
Giving yourself to christ is NOT a dreafful thing its something to be happy about. :)
Let go some of the things slowly.
You can download more christian songs.
I used to listen to alot of worldly music, but hey, after i've downloaded more christian songs, i've actually found many of the christian songs more nicer than worldly music.
Try it.
God bless you abundantly.
