It's not religious belief that is keeping poor people poor.
If they didn't believe in a life here after and started making more demands, they would be oppressed even more.
Thanks to N.A.F.T.A.large corporations ,like Nike, can go into a poor country, such as Haiti, pay the people next to nothing and threaten to move to another poor country whose people will work for less,if people start making demands.

first of all, someone here is a terrible person for making disparaging remarks about other nation's people. Also, Asian nations seem to be kicking our *** without believing in god.

Also: missionaries. White people swoop in, and tell them they have to change their way of life. They pretty much tell them to live the white way. It ***** up their system because it's an attempt to destroy their world. White people leave and leave a bigger mess than what they had before.

Pretty much.... history screwed them over good. And still, missionaries go in there and tell them to act differently. Their world doesn't work the same as ours, but "we" try and make them work like us.

only in the Roman Catholic Nations where they continue to preach that poverty in gods name is acceptable. The Catholic Church has miss guided millions in religious bondage and thinks that poor is better as the Church gets rich on the back of the blinded followers. Watch the EWTN channel sometime, everything "they" have is gold plated and opulent and ostentatious but the "word" is be poor and be sorrowful... "religious garbage" Jesus clearly said that He came to give life and life more abundantly ! Read the Scriptures.

"Religion is what keeps the poor from murdering the rich" - Napoleon Bonaparte

"Religion is excellent stuff for keeping common people quiet" - Napoleon Bonaparte

"Religion is the opiate of the masses" - Karl Marx

Napoleon is particularly interesting because he initially wanted to get rid of religion from his state, until he realised it was all that kept the poor in their place. So he reinstituted Catholicism.

No it doesn't stop them demanding a better life. But it can help them deal with a life that often has little chance of changing.

What is your concept of better life? drinking, illigal sex, materiesm, curruption?

Prophet Muhammad (saw) said us to pray from God for both words not only afterlife.

Hazrat Abu Bakr (RaziAllahu Anhu) said that he heard the Holy Prophet (SallAllahu alaihi wasalam) saying: "Beg Allah for Iman and Afiat (wellbeing in both worlds)." It is true that after Iman (Faith) there is nothing better than to pray for the Protection of Allah (Subhana wa Ta'ala) in both worlds. Iman protects a soul from punishment in the world Hereafter and Afiat is mainly a protection from all evils in this world.

Amazingly, the Global Warming crowd is keeping them from developing so that they struggle everyday and pray to God for justice for those who rob them of their inalienable rights to pursue happiness for themselves.
