He is VERY fat..he weighs about 16 pounds. I think it is really cute but I know he needs to loose weight. He will throw up occasionaly and I think it is because he eats when he is bored, not realizing he isnt hungry. I cant feed him certain amounts a day because my other cat (she is a regular weight) will refuse to eat if her food isnt there 24/7.

Why is my cat throwing up all the time? He will do it probably once every two weeks for about two months then he will stop for about 5 months. (total guess)

first thing I would do is get your cat to the vet to rule out any medical conditions and you and your vet can work out the best way to help your cat to loose weight.

try spending at least 5 mins a day plaing with your cat, get a string toy, cats love to jump and chase string toys.

You could try giving Mr. Tubby some hairball remedy to see if that would help him. Sometimes a small hairball is present and they keep throwing up until they get rid of it.

Some cats are gobblers and some are snackers and it looks like you have one of each. One thing you could do is place the cats in different rooms and only feed Mr. Tubby the amounts recommended by the vet, half in the morning and half at night, to see if this solves the problem. He should definitely be on "light" food, though. To lose weight, it takes cats a very long time. My cat, Mr. Fluffy, was 18.4 lbs. and lost 4 lbs in a year, which I thought was a good amount.

The first thing you should do, though, is take him to the vet to get advice on what the cat should eat and how much. The cat should also get an examination to be sure it isn't something else. Sometimes cats with asthma throw up a lot.

1. You need to put your cat on a diet. Don't worry about the other cat who wants the food out 24/7. She will learn to eat when fed, once she gets hungry. The procedure is typical: you put the food in front of them in the morning, the fat cat eats his, if the thin cat doesn't eat hers you take it away. You feed them again for lunch, if still she doesn't eat you take it away. I bet she will eat her dinner. Then breakfast, etc.
2. About throwing up, it may be due to hair balls, but it's better to ask a vet. Feed him a lighter food, like boiled chicken and rice, or cat food for sensitive stomach and see if this goes on.

Sounds like your cat is Bulimic. This is a common among obese cats. He keeps regergiating hoping to lose weight but it doesn't work sending your cat into deep depression and all he does is watch TV and eat all day not getting his normal exersise. I would give him lots of catnip (cat prozac) and some raw bacon. Hopefully he gets butt worms. The worms will take care of his cat obesity. Then hopefully he becomes happy again and the worms will go away with simple antibiotics!
