When you have pain, sleep is a major issue. Initiating sleep in the presence of pain is quite difficult. Here are a few ideas.
1. Take your pain medication 45 min to 1 hour before the desired time of sleep (most pain meds hit their peak effectiveness in this time period)
2. Try a heating pad over the affected area or soak in a warm bath, just prior to sleep. This will increase circulation and decrease pain perception. (do not sleep on a heating pad as you may burn the skin, however, there are heating pads with a timer which can be used wile falling to sleep.)
3. Try relaxation therapy techniques, such as biofeedback or imagery (usually these take training with a counselor)
4. Talk to you physician about getting a short course of a short acting sleep medication.
If you do not sleep properly, your perception of pain will increase, which will then make sleep more difficult. Get this under control as soon as possible.

You take a hot shower, not a bath as you could drown after being medicated.
Then you turn off everything including the computer and tv and talk to God. Tell God the things you are thankful for, talk to Him about your pain. Ask him to ease it so you can rest and thank him for it too. Have a long conversation, get it all out and the next thing you know, you are waking up from a peaceful sleep.
