A lot of people like Bose speakers because they're pretty good. However, I've heard some people say that they're overpriced. You can actually get very competitive speakers that are less expensive than Bose speakers or if you want to spend the same amount as you would on Bose, you can get better quality speakers. Look for speakers that have a high RMS and make sure the cone is made of good quality material and that the surround (the part that connects the cone to the frame) allows for the most flexibility. Usually those big rubber surrounds are just to ensure long service but deteriorate sound quality because they inhibit the cone from moving as freely as it could and the cone needs to move freely to push air efficiently. That's all a speaker does. It moves air and the faster it can twitch the better sound it should produce.

If you don't mind having a decent sized system in your loungue then don't buy bose.

If you want the best value, don't buy bose.

If you want the best sound dont buy bose.

If you want a small compact unit and value yuppie chic over quality/sound/value buy bose.

If you want to have to buy a complete new unit if one part of it breaks, buy bose.

If you want the best quality, the best sound (i.e. it's a hifi, I guess sound is quite important) then buy seperates.

If aesthetic matters so much then buy a nice smoke glass unit to hide it in.

Buy a STEREO amp if your main bag is music.
Postion your speakers (which should be reated at double the wattage of your amp) apart by about 2/3rds of the distance you typially listen at.

A well set up stereo amp with decent speakers (with ideally a seperate bass amp or a seperate base port) sounds better than any elctronic gadgetry trying to compensate/imitate.

The best sounding amp I ever had was a simple cambridge stereo amp from Richer Sounds. No frills. All the money wnet on the sound. Denon also do very simple but well made quality amps delivering rich sounds, which when pumping though a decent set of well placed speakers will wipe the floor with minature ideal space designed bose gear.

Bose are a triumph of marketing over common sense.

Their products are poorly made, sound appalling and their dealer backup is rotten. Amazingly, people will still buy Bose products simply because they fall for the hype.

Anything, absolutely anything at the same price as Bose (and many cheaper products, too) will sound better. If you enjoy your music and movies, don't ruin them by buying Bose.

Is the best, and they have can down to £199, so nothing in the same price range can touch it.
