Is one day good enough to experience disneyland in hong kong? Also, are there any decent hotels in or around disneyland?

Lantau Island is actually slightly bigger than Hong Kong Island. Until fairly recently the only thing to do there was hiking, enjoying nature, or going to the Po Lin monastery, because they never had near the amount of people living there, on account their water system was less reliable.
If you are rich, you can of course "play the fast- lane game" and find some expensive accommodation, else just hop on the ferry back to Hong Kong Central, where there is tons of accommodation. It only takes about 20-30 minutes ferrying.

If you really want to do it on a shoestring, and you don't mind waking up early to morning prayers, you can head up to Po Lin Monastery and stay for free, or for a small donation. You can hardly miss it, it has the largest Buddha statue in the world.
At the Monastery, you can climb nearby Mt. Stenhouse, the tallest mountain in Hong Kong. It is like a long staircase, and lovely up on the peak. There is lots to do on Lantau besides heading to Disneyland. That's if you really want to experience the place, and not just plastic rip-offs.
I love Hong Kong, but I do not like what they've done to it, trying to make it unaffordable, except to Jet setters.. You won't find me anywhere near that trash.

I enjoyed Hong Kong Disneyalnd when I went last week but I think I day is enough. This is my blog about the day:

There are a couple of Disney resort hotels:

When I stayed in HK I stayed in Mongkok on Kowloon side and did other stuff like Po Lin, Wetlands, Victoria Peak, etc.

My favourite hotel in all Hong Kong is Silvermine Beach Hotel in Mui Wo, Lantau Island (where HK Disneyland is situated). It's about an hour from the park but that isn't a big disadvantage cos u can combine a visit to Lantau with a local ferry thqt will take you to HK Central is about half an hour and costs HK$15 + many of the local attractions on the island itself (referred to by another respondent). Oh and there's two good seafood restaurants in Mui Wo :)
