I had to guess at a couple. 1) What proportion of the Earth's atmosphere is carbon dioxide? B … 0.04% 2) Which of these is considered to be the largest contributor to manmade global warming? E … Agriculture and farming 3) What does IPCC stand for? C … Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change 4) What happens when you burn methane? C … You get water and carbon dioxide 5) If you released equal amounts of these greenhouse gases into the atmosphere, which one is likely to cause the most warming? C … Nitrous oxide 6) By what amount does natural global warming raise Earth’s average temperature? D … 33°C 7) Only one of the following periods of low solar activity is in the correct chronological order, which one is it? A … Wolf Minimum, Sporer Minimum, Maunder Minimum 8) Taking into account emissions of all greenhouse gases, approximately how much does the average person on Earth contribute to the atmosphere each year? B … 5 tonnes (guess) 9) If two people were discussing the climate and the effect of the NAO, what would they most likely be talking about? E … Atmospheric changes over the ocean 10) Assuming nothing gets in the way, when is the peak of the next ice age due? B … In about 100,000 years

Similar questions have been asked on here before by myself and others. Judging by the responses most people (sceptics included) acknowledge that the greenhouse effect is real and that naturally occurring greenhouse gases keep the planet at a habitable temperature. It would, after all, be pretty pointless and a clear demonstration of ignorance to claim that there was no greenhouse effect at all.
However, there tends to be a confused look on the faces of many sceptics when asked if they can explain how natural greenhouse gases warm the planet but manmade ones don't. As a climatologist this is the sort of thing I regularly come across and to date there has been no rational explanation provided to explain this phenomenon.
The fact that the climate has changed in the past seems to be a favourite stock response proffered by many skeptics to many questions that are put to them. It fails to answer the question, proves nothing and in many cases seems to be an escape route to avoid admiting they have no answer.

The basic skeptic answer to this question is that yes, the greenhouse effect exists, however the human contribution is minimal. Some will actually use numbers and say that human greenhouse gas emissions are a small fraction of total greenhouse gas emissions.
What they omit is that the natural carbon cycle is well-balanced, and cannot absorb all of the greenhouse gases humans are emitting. Thus even though it's a relatively small amount, our greenhouse gases continue to build up in the atmosphere and eventually grow to a significant amount. I've never heard a skeptic address this point.

The climate has been changing on earth for about 4 1/2
billion years and it will continue to change...
The earth has warmed up before due to greenhouse gasses
and it has always reverted back to ice ages ..
Man probably has something to do with the current warming
trend but how much and exactly what we can do about it is
up for arguement...
We will be fine and we will adapt...
The sky is not falling....

Remember, we sit BETWEEN two fires. And they are larger that anything MAN can do. It is man's ARROGANCE that makes him think otherwise....remember GALILEO.....8P....
GAIA could care less...and Iceland and Greenland were farming climates at an earlier time...
