ive always been told the most accurate round is a .308 win magnum ive been looking to get a rifle with a little more range then my ar. i thought maybe a cheep sks and an old scope laying around or an old 7 or 8mm mauser wich i can find for a lot less then the .308. vut im not sure maybe an old einfeild or something. just wondering if anyone had an opionion on it keep in mind i live in the city with people being my primary game with the thing so 50cal or a 460 wthrby would be a lil much im not killin elephants.

it is a very accurate round, highly recommend it, stay away from cheap if you want range, it defeats the purpose of a hot rod caliber to have it shot from a tube o poo. ask anybody in long range shooting they use a ton of calibers based on the 8mm. the .308 is very versatile and will put anything on this continent down. 7mm08mm ackley is probaly the best i have ever seen, though based on my personal opinion as it shoots sweeter than the .308, if you can imagine that.

There are many cartridges out there that are more inherently accurate then the .308, look up the 6mm PPC, for instance. While the .308 is a fine cartridge, it certainly isn't "the best"

There are many other rounds as good or better.
There is nothing magical about the .308win. It just got popular do to military use & being smaller than the 30-06.
