I read a book where the main character was describing her experiences with Bulimia and she said that she stole a lot of her binge food...and in the whole time she was bulimic she had stolen thousands of dollars worth of food...then it spread to other things and she stole thousands of dollars worth of other things..all stemming back from bulimia. She also said she would spend hours walking up and down grocery store aisles and that she spend more time at grocery stores than she did with friends and family. She also said she had been to nearly every restaurant, grocery store and convenience shop in her town. Had thrown up in buckets, corn fields, trash cans, boxes, showers, lakes-- anywhere she could do it privately and conceal the vomit. She said no one ever saw her binge/purge and if someone had in the middle of it, she would have killed herself out of embarrassment. She said she had probably thrown up enough in her lifetime to fill up a lake!! Is this possibly true! I guess I'm shocked

She described college as only remembering the dorm where she hid out because she was too depressed, the gym where she tried to burn off excess, and the cafeteria where she'd binge while normal students would eat casually in groups like normal kids do, trying not to have anyone else notice. She didn't remember classes, teachers, other students..none of that. And she did remember guys beds that she ended up in because she became promiscuous as many bulimics do. She was diagnosed with severe depression. She was a very conscientious, highly intelligent (she had gotten a full ride to a great private university on academic scholarship), pretty, and from a wonderful family. Her mom, aunt were both bulimic. She said she did it and lived bulimia everyday very intensely and changed 100% all from putting too much pressure on herself growing up and didn't feel like anyone liked her any better for being so perfect so she just gave up and crashed and bulimia was all she had..Does this sound real??

Very Sad! What a waste of potential! To think how many girls suffer with it...to whatever degree... is very sad...

It's actually about me, not a book. I just wanted to put out there the truth about bulimia. If Lindsay Lohan makes it popular, then I'm going to do the opposite and tell the truth. All of you girls out there--watch out before it gets the best of you! What I wouldn't give to have taken seriously the warning my mom gave me and the help she tried to get me after she first noticed my bulimia (which was immediately since she herself had been bulimic)!! I would have literally saved thousands of dollars in treatment, failed treatment, food, fines, jail bail money, various doctor appointments, and not to mention unwanted pregnancies resulting from low self esteem and promiscuity, jail time for stealing food, dropping out of school, getting STDs, hurting every single person I love, getting kicked out of this and that, never connecting to myself much less a single friend. All that does not have to happen to YOU! Get help before it takes over your life. Don't think it's just a different diet!

Whoa, yes that is realistic and very sad. Bulimia is a horrible disease; too many girls consider it to be some kind of 'quick fix' for their self image issues, and it just spirals from there. We shouldn't be surprised; there are a lot of girls out there all around us who have eating disorders and get good at hiding it, so we may not even know. When you do find out, please- encourage them to get help.
Sad story. Thanks for sharing.

I can relate to your experiences. I too, suffered from Bulimia and Anorexia. Your story brought back my own memories, and yes, I am very ashamed to remember those days. I still think it is a "little funny" when I use to binge and purge so much at a local mall that eventually the whole mall locked every single public bathroom they had. Yeah, I got real bad too, and it was sad.
i lost all my four front teeth and the remaining teeth I have have deep craters in them.
I got into the shoplifting too, and yeah, embarrassing to admit was arrested for it multiple times. I could not think or study in college either, and was just too obsessed over wanting to binge and purge.
I was very, very thin, and anorexic looking though.. So i had both .
I understand you all too well. And very glad those days are over, and I lived through all of it. Sounds like you are very luck to have survived too.

What a wonderful question. I wish you could put it in every category. The more people to read it, the more lives I believe you might save. That definitely deserves a big star!! Thank you. -LL And, btw, that really IS how it is for bulimics AND anorexics.
