It could be a build up of debris and wax in the ear but it sounds to me like ear mites. Your Vet can give you some drops for this but there is an excellent product called "Thornit" which is marvellous for cleaning out the ears. It comes in powder form and you only need a pinch inside the ear for a few days and they will be as clean as a whistle. I use a teaspoon and dip the handle in the powder, you only need a tiny amount, then sprinkle it inside the ear flap and gently rub the outside to disperse the powder.
Tap "Thornit" in your search engine and you can read all about it. I buy mine on line from www.groomers-online,com
but there may be a stockist near you. A lot of Vets also stock this product.
In the meantime, just buy some ear wips and gently cleanse the inside of the ear to get rid of the debris. Use the Thornit to prevent a recurrence of this. I treat all my dogs about once a month.
Good luck.

You need to take her back to the vet. It sounds like possibly ear mites. If you had taken her to the vet before he should have swabbed the ear and looked under the microscope for mites. If you are treating your dog with an over the counter medication you could be doing more harm then good. As for finding the tick in her bed and eggs on her back you need to get her to a vet immediately.

If the inside of the ears look clean, then it may be that your dog is scratching behind her ears and making them bleed. This indicates either an inner ear infection,a skin problem,or fleas.Just wash the area with peroxide and call your vet tomorrow.

Do NOT put hydrogen peroxide in your dogs ear. Only put peroxide on wounds you can immediately wash off.
Hydrogen peroxide not only kills bacteria, but good tissue cells too. Trapping infection in your dogs ear will make it so much worse and incredibly painful.
Take your dog to the vet soon. If his ear infection is not treated soon, he can go deaf.
Your dogs symptoms sound just like an ear infection, not mites.
I hope he gets to feeling better soon.

Ear infections are usually characterized by brown waxy discharge, red inflamed ears and characteristic nasty sweet sort of smell. The dogs may shake their heads or rub their ears (mine often don't though).
I'd get it checked out by a vet to be sure. Don't freak - they are pretty easily treated with prescription antibiotic ointment or pills and ear cleaners.

it's an ear infection some breeds are more prone than others
you need medication from your vet after the ears had healed you need to keep them clean by cleaning them at least once a week with ear cleaning fluid

It sounds like ear mites. Not a huge emergency, but you need to get to a vet in the next day or so.
