Not gonna happen, dude. The USCIS (Immigration Department) test every marriage to make sure that it is real and not a fraud. They want to see evidence of a prior relationship such as photographs of you together, letters and emails written to each other, plane tickets from visits to each other's home country, etc, etc. As part of the Green Card process the USCIS would call your friend and his new found bride in for an interview. They'll ask the husband and wife questions seperately and then compare the answers. The answers they'll be looking for would only be known by a genuinely married couple. So therefore, it won't take long for the USCIS to see through your friend's little scheme and he'll soon find himself on the first plane home with a deportation order and a bar on him re-entering the US for five years.
People who abuse the process for immigrating make me sick because it makes it so much harder for those of us who are coming into the country for genuine reasons. We are all put under suspicion of having committed a crime when most of us LEGALS are here for honest reasons.

If you he goes through with it and applies for the visa, immigration will ask for documents (even affidavits) that will substantiate the marriage. Then your friend and his new bride will be subjected to interviews under oath with immigration. If it is determined that their marriage is not real, your friend will be deported and his bride could go to jail. THIS IS FRAUD. DO NOT MARRY SOMEONE FOR A GREEN CARD! YOU BOTH COULD END UP IN JAIL! Why can't your friend file for an extension or renewal of his student visa? That is his best bet.

The marraige thing won't work anymore. They changed the immigration laws several years ago so that even if you married a citizen here in the US to get your visa you still have to go back to your home country and wait for an appointment. It was changed for instances like this where people were cheating the system and manipulating the rules with fraudulent activity.

why would he do that for??? hes going to be stuck with a wife that he doesnt know or love???? If he does i hope he gets caught because that is just dumb. i married an illegal but we married for love and we knew eachother for years before we even thought to get married... tell your friend that divorce costs way more than marriage, so if he does go throught it he better start saving!!! good luck with whatever he chooses!

Please don't take the sanctity of marriage so lightly.
Do not use such a sacred bond as a tool for what would otherwise be illegal activity.
If your marriage is for the right reasons, then by all means take advantage of all the benefits.

Does he no longer meet the requirements to maintain a student visa?
Marriage simply to establish a basis to stay here is fraud and a federal crime.
