Exercise is basically moving (not sitting on the couch or in front of the computer), so it depends what you do during the day. If you don't move much during the day, than 30 minutes isn't enough. It all depends how intense the exercise is too. If you need to lose some weight, then you aren't eating as healthy as you think. Sugar, white bread (or any white flour products) are just as unhealthy (and fattening) as any junk food (they are junk food). If you put a ton of saturated fat laden condiments or sugar on healthy foods, you just ruined them and you aren't really eating healthy. Healthy eating is balancing your meals (5 smaller meals a day) with lean protein, complex carbs and good fats. It all boils down to the effects food has on insulin. If they cause an insulin spike (too much insulin) then they will cause fat gain and they are unhealthy, because too much insulin causes a LONG list of health problems over time. The healthier you eat, the less exercise you need. Exercise will somewhat compensate for eating crappy foods (it helps regulate insulin and it's negative effects on the body).

Your body is the best gym no money can ever buy. Start with stretches everyday. Go for a nice walk daily, increasing distance slightly every week. For upper body try pushups, starting with small numbers of repetitions, and adding a pushup a day, or one every 2 days. For lower body try squats, situps, leg lifts, etc. Walking up and down stairs is also great. Make sure you don't eat too few calories, or your body will adjust it's metabolism to hoard energy.. You should try to lose no more that 1-2 pounds a week. Try changing exercises to keep your body guessing, and if you can keep yourself motivated you will get in great shape..

Gyms get boring after a while anyways! Buy some fitness magazines, a lot of them have free websites with support groups 'n' stuff. Also, don't give up, do something every day for your health. Even if it's something small, like going for dried fruit instead of a candy bar! I am a little taller than you, but used to weigh 203 lbs. That was two years ago. I am almost right where I want to be. It takes time! Be patient with yourself. Believe me once you start seeing results you won't ever want to stop taking care of yourself!

You dont need a gym to exercise. Congratuations that you are walking. Walk every day for at least 30 minutes. Dance to music at least 30 minutes. Clean your house and work in the yard. All burn calories to lose weight.
If you don't eat the calories you wont gain weight and in the end lose some. Slow and easy is your montra.

I have a friend who lost TONS of weight just by riding a bike. I dunno if you have one, but someone may have one that you can buy from them for a low price, or borrow for that matter. Otherwise you could try Salvation Army or Goodwill...or a garage sale. The other thing I like which isn't that much are the exercise balls. You can get them for fairly cheap and they usually come with a DVD that shows you how to use them.
