I adopted him from a local ASPCA, he is six years old. I wonder why he likes to smash my face with his when he is happy? Not that I mind, but I am curious as to why he does this....

It's what cats do. Seriously, it's the cat way of showing affection and marking you as 'his'. Those spots on his forehead where the hair is thin are scent glands. Rubbing them on you (or head-butting you) transfers his scent to you.

That is the way cats show affection. Some do it harder than others. The cat is also marking you as his or hers. Cats rub their heads, flanks and tails on owners to leave their sent, claiming them as their property. Cats do the same with each other. You should be honored--you are now one of the family.

He is happy AND I think that YOU are his bestest buddy . BFFL. I have a crazy kitty that likes to rub his face on everything. I'm serious, damn near everything. including ME. His name is Tigger and I love him to death. this knucklehead kitty has kept me company for so many years that I don't know what I would do without him. In a few years, I hope that you feel the same. KITTIES ROCK

When cats head-butt eachother it's usualy a loving greating. if they rub their cheeks on you then its marking you as it's belonging. my cat head-butts my face and I usualy just give him a kiss on the head calling his head-butts kisses instead. It's just a comunication thing, your cat realy loves you!

He's giving you a kiss, as well as marking you as his own personal human.

I love it when my cats do this to me.

Cats will do that. My cat will head butt my arm to get me to move my hand so I could pet her.
