If you're sure he doesn't really have to 'go', try distracting him with a bone or toy for now. On future nights, make sure the dog gets plenty of exercise, attention and play during the day so that he's tired out enough to sleep when you want to sleep!

You're rewarding him for scratching by saying "No." If you are 100% sure that he's empty, you need to ignore the behavior. Behaviors that are not rewarded will naturally go away - but, behaviors that do get rewarded will go on, and on, and on!
Remember that if your dog gets any reaction from you at all he will continue to scratch. To save your furniture, you could tape a metal grid thing up to your door to make scratching less attractive.
Good luck!

Your lucky... right now I am trying to housebreak a dog i found .. have had her 3 weeks and she hasn't once crapped outside... she has pee peed a few times outside... at least she is starting to use the pee pads...
are their any dogs in your neighborhood in heat???
Try the crating .. if your dog is use to that.. or putting in another room from the door?
good luck

If he has to go, let him out. If not, crating him is the best. It might be tough in the beginning, but well worth it. If you do crate him, just ignore the crying. If you give in, you're rewarding him.

Either ignore him, he might get the hint after he realizes you don't acknowledge him. Or, get a crate and put him in it for the night.
