bcuz of the size of your dog and his weight you will probably be ok and if your sure he only ate a few!! just keep an eye on him for any signs of illness, throwing up or runs... i had a lrg. dog as well who got into easter candy ( chocolate) out of kids basket.... well she was ok cuz she was large enough that she had a little more of a window where it would take a little more to be deadly.... just be carefull and watch him!!!

I always keep a can of pumpkin pie filling (plain kind- just pureed pumpkin without added sugar and spices) in case of diarrhea if anything my dogs may chance to get into, upsets their stomach or digestive system. Works better than ANYTHING I have ever tried and I got that tip from my VET.
In the case of your German Shepherd dog eating a few strips of cooked onion, it shouldn't hurt him. It's a large dog, a few strips and it was cooked. Raw is worse.

Cooked onions are still bad, but it takes quite alot of onions to hurt a dog (cats are more sensitive though). Your big boy should be fine with only eating a few strips of onion. If you're worried, call the vets office and see if there is an emergency service you can talk to. It is possible to give dogs a tablespoon of hydrogen peroxide to make them throw up, but again i don't think you have anything to worry about.

A vet told me once after my dog ate some chocolate that the only way it would cause for serious concern if the dog ate about 1 ounce of chocolate for each pound they way. I am not sure how much onion they would have to consume for it to do serious damage.

Watch for vomiting and diarrhea, as well as red tinted urine.
If you see these bring your dog to vet asap.

Your dog will have serious stomach drama. Please be more careful in the future - onions are highly poisonous to dogs.
