Khe Sanh. But it was a joke. About three NVA divisions were decimated around it. Later when the 101st staged through it to raid far up the A Shau and into Laos it was almost like a western ghost town. Necular weapons were talked about in panic in DC. But the jarheads held it fine and after the 101st took over 1st Corps area of operations it became a backwater. If we were going to take a step like that it would have been at Khe Sanh. The reason is that very early on every one realized that the VC and NVA were planning to make Khe Sanh our Din Ben Phu. The PR disaster from that had to be avoided at all costs. Luckily the Marines there with help from massive amounts of convential air power were able to throw the siege back.

Sorry, but that is a bad question. Nuclear weapons were never seriously considered for use in Vietnam while American forces were there. Yes, some officials like Air Force General Curtis LeMay advocated uses nuclear weapons, but neither the Johnson nor Nixon administrations wanted a nuclear showdown with the Soviet Union or China.
The Marine garrision at Khe Sanh was besieged at the time of the Tet Offensive in 1968 and American military officials worried about saving it, but stopped short of considering using nuclear weapons.
However, the was a plan to use nuclear bombs to save the French garrision at Dien Bien Phu in 1954. American planners developed Operation Vulture, using nuclear bombs to wipe out the Vietminh besiegers, but the US feared retaliation by the Soviet Union.
BTW Tell your world history teacher that that was a poor question. Be polite about it, but tell him/her that they have the wrong idea. Show him/her this answer if it helps.

There was never any plan to use nukes in Viet Nam. You're thinking of the Siege of Khe Sahn.
