MMM for some, the crucifix is nothing more than a representation of a man being tortured to death.... Those who find it offensive are not Christians. Whatever your religion, whatever it's symbol, someone will certainly find it offensive and have a comment about it. It hasbecome the way of our society. To all of them, I say leave it alone. Do you thing, "seek your own truth" leave others alon and let them look to their own spirituality in their own way.

Ok, i asked this question a long time ago before i found the one true path Paganism) >
I was told by a priest of the Catholics that they found the crucifix offensive to be worn because it was a holy symbol of the actual church, and it also depicted Christ in agony for us and that was to light of a way to hold his acts of martyrdom out of respect.

The cross,(without body) was a symbol of the faith and non offensive to them.

Many other religions may find your cross offensive because to them it may represent oppression, war, or damnation.

Also ppl can be intimidated by your religious opinions and attitude, they may associate the rude members of Christs followers with all those who wear the cross.

In the end i wear my pentagrams way out in the open, and i fully expect every christian out there to wear there badges loud and proud.... that way we can see you coming.

Personally I don't care what another person wears. I find it amusing that many people who wear the cross behave in the most unchristian like manner. I think that is a disgrace to the cross that is supposed to be a symbol for good.

Why do Christians find other such items offensive? The Pentagram, the "Om" symbol, etc.

It is my opinion that some people are only offended by cross necklaces when they believe or suspect that it has a religious meaning to you. If they thought it was just decoration, they would more than likely not be offended.

There are some people who believe in the concept of secularism; that is: a division between what is sacred and what is secular. They think that church and its related activities belong in a Sunday-only box, rather than seeing Jesus as being integral to everyday life.

I oppose these viewpoints. Why should people be allowed to wear "secular" necklaces (promoting no religion except perhaps, "glory to man") while "religious" necklaces are discriminated against? I see no reason to give way to the liberal viewpoint that religion should stay in "its place." God is involved with our everyday lives, and we should have the freedom in religion to express our beliefs that God IS involved in every aspect of our everyday lives.

Freedom of religion means freedom to express our religions, not freedom FROM religion in all public arenas, etc. as some liberals try to insist and promote.

Why would anyone find it offensive? I have a necklas that my Mother and Stepdad brought me when they went to visit his relatives in Italy 4 years ago. It is the only necklas I ever where. It has sentimental value because of who bought for me and the meaning behind the Cross.

People should be able to tell you are a Christian without having to have a cross - a man made object - hanging on your neck. Walk the walk and talk the talk.

It's just a reminder of torture and kinda disgusting in that aspect. I don't get offended when I see them on people, but I do get offended when I'm stared at for wearing a pentacle. Which, by the way, represents earth, air, water, fire, and spirit. Not the gruesome symbol of a tortured crucifixion.

I read that for the first time today.

I personally feel uncomfortable when I see elementary teachers wearing them (I teach as well). I think it is inappropriate for a teacher to share their views on religion and/or politics. A discreet cross that can be tucked into the shirt is fine, I'm talking about blatant symbols of their faith that little ones are going to drawn to asking about. I wear normal jewelry and the kids want to see it, touch it, talk about what it is (amber).

I am an adult and am old enough to make my decisions. They are easily influenced by adults-hence, discretion across the board as a teacher should be appropriate.

Wearing a crucifix around one's neck is one of the best ways to silently follow St. Pauls teaching to preach Christ crucified.

I don't. The only problem I have is when a kid can wear a cross to school but isn't allowed to wear the pentagram. Equality for all.
