I have been reading many posts here by you Christians. I have not found one, not one, that contains any insight or thoughtfulness. I was hoping you could clear a few things up for me:

1) Why do you keep insisting that Christianity is the source of all morality when all evidence says otherwise. America is the most Christian of all Western nations and has some of the highest per capita crime rates. Statistically, evangelical christians are more likely to divorce than atheists. Heck, even your own statements betray your consequentialist moral leanings when you say things like "wouldn't the world be a better place if we all followed Christ's teachings?" Why not just
follow consequentialist morality? Why do you need a decrepit 3000 year old book to tell you what is right?

2. Why do you keep claiming that you are somehow "oppressed" when virtually every politician/crook in the nation identifies themself as Christian? You are the ones who put them in office. More to come...

One of you argues that America is not the great Christian nation it once was. Yeah, America was much more civil and righteous back when it had institutionalized slavery and considered women mere possessions of men.

Most of you keep repeating the mantra "Gosh, just because people say they are a christian does not mean they are one." Then point me to a "real christian." There have probably been more legitimate sightings of the Loch Ness monster than of a "real Christian."

Another one of you blames the other invisible fairy, Satan, for Christians' troubles. Have you even considered the possiblity that Christians fail because of Christianity, not in spite of it, not because of some non-existant conspiracy of satanists?

It is amazing to me how people always hold other people to a standard that they themselves can not uphold. I say this because I find your question neither insightful nor thoughtful. However, I will attempt to respond to your questions, although I can tell by your tone that no answer will suffice. Maybe, I can shed some light on you inquiry.

Christians insist that Christianity is the only source of all morality because like you and everyone else that has a belief system, they must live by their convictions. If one does not live by what they profess then what kind of Christian, Atheist, or Consequential Moralist would they be? I believe that if you question many Christians properly you will find that they do not necessarily believe that Christianity is the only source of all morality. You will however find that they believe that Christianity is the only source by which morality should be measured.

You are correct in stating that America is the most Christian of all western nations and we do indeed have some of the highest per capita crime rates. However, I am amazed how you seem to be assuming that these crimes are be perpetuated by Christians. I am happy to say that you are mistaken. The people that are committing these crimes would probably not ascribe to the teachings of the Holy Scriptures and they probably would not identify themselves as Christians. They may however, be atheist or even ascribe to the philosophy of consequentialist morality.

As for crime rates, any well read, educated individual knows that there is a direct link between crimes rates and poverty, crimes rates and lack of employment and crime rates and lack of education. The reasons for our high crime rates are social, political, educational, as well as spiritual.

You may be correct in saying that those that "profess" to be Evangelical Christians are just as likely to divorce as atheist. I believe that I am correct in saying that many people that proclaim to be Christian are not! We have many examples all around us. As you stated, all we have to do is look at our corrupt politcal system. You are correct in stating that many of our political leaders are corrupt and they "profess" to be Christian, but they are not. But, let me tell you I am not, nor are the many Christians I know the ones that voted for them or put them in office. Christians have many varied political views. The best determinent of whether or not a person is a Christian is not necessarily what they say, but how they live.

As for the 3000 year old book that so many Christians attempt to pattern their lives after; I ask you, do you know of any other older documented and authenticated manuscripts that do not use it as some form of reference?

Let's not forget that one of the wonderful things about being not only an American, but also a Christian is that I know and believe that you have the right to be a Consequential Moralist that judges Christians and I have the right to let you and give you the most insightful and thoughful response I can muster.

Peacefully Submitted

America is no longer the Christian nation it once was. It still holds to many of the Christian teachings in its laws, but you cannot impose Christian morals on pagans. We must expect the pagans to act like pagans. They have only adopted the things in Christianity that seem to be common sense, like 'don't steal from others' 'don't kill others', "treat others the way you want to be treated', etc. but they cannot live up to Christian principles simply because they aren't Christian. There are countless CHRISTIANS who can't live up to the principles of Christianity. Hence, you have a lot of folks pointing fingers at us saying, 'you don't even act like Christ, why should we believe what you say?"(which, by the way, is a very good criticism)

2. Christians in this country are not really oppressed. They don't know the meaning of persecution. Millions of Christians are being slaughtered in the Sudan and Arab countries all the time. There were more Christians killed (little known fact) during the Holocaust than Jews, if you add in the Slavic Christians who were slaughtered. So we don't know what oppression is in this country. As far as the politicians go, don't you know by now that most of them lie? Why would you believe they are Christians just because they say so? We don't believe half of the other stuff they tell us!

We don't follow a consequentialist morality (if the result is favorable, then the means are moral) because it is monstrous. That is exactly the sort of thinking that communists used: a classless society is a good thing; therefore a oppressive, murderous dictatorship is okay as long as the end result is a classless society.
Whether or not Christians live up to their own standard of morality, Christianity offers an antidote to exactly this sort of thinking. There will always be Christians among those speaking out against injustice.

*sigh*, the word IF is a big word in this statement * the world would be a better place IF we followed Christ teachings*........ and hence the HIGH crime rate...... What you and others do NOT understand and may NEVER is that satan is the greatest and the father of all lies !!! and the greatest deception he has managed to pull off is the one that people use the most, * I am Christian !!!!*........ You and others call attention to those such as that, you roll us all into one neat little package and ASSUME you know one from the other, you do NOT..... and I do not expect you to....... God do not expect you to....... the ONLY ones who are expected to be able to decern the difference is the ones who ARE indwelt with the Holy Spirit, who have and KNOW Jesus as their Savior, the Christ that died, who shed his precious blood and who arose on the 3rd day........ and as for #2, well who else do YOU suppose we vote for ??? Every man who steps up CLAIMS go be a man or woman of God, they say what will get them elected.... They claim God and Jesus in their lives, but that does NOT make it so....... they are NOT stamped with Jesus on the forehead.......... I have never shaken the hand of a politican, have you ?? the spirit of the man reveals itself in time....... not always in time to NOT vote for him/her....... now, on to the *oppressed* issue...... that again is a debatable issue...... History books do not make a big deal out of the deaths of Christians, and people do not seem to take the time to study what information is out there....... The witch hunts were NOT only that, they also killed many, many women just because they were women...... the MEN thought they were door ways to evil....... Do you honestly think that ALL the killings that have gone on over time that NO Christians were murdered ??? And do you honestly think that ALL those who were doing the killlings KNEW God, the way they should have, and were Christian the way Jesus taught ??? I wish people like you would THINK before you speak or type such things......... People *claim* that truth and reasoning and intellect or absent in a Christian, but then you and others turn around and say and think such things as *Christians are responsible * for all the evil and such dribble......... get real............ If you KNEW the Bible and the truth of a born again, Jesus believing, blood cleansed Christian, you would MAYBE see the reality and TRUTH of the world......... go in peace......... God bless

I'm sorry but I don't see "any insight and thoughtfulness" in your rant either that you so long for.

What you need to realize is that even though most of us know what is right and what is wrong we generally incline towards wrong. It is true, your 'wrongs' may be different from my 'wrongs' but the fact remains that the ills you have described are a result of our human nature. We all possess the same nature whether Christian or not.

If in spite of the clear instructions that people revere, we see so much of immorality can you imagine what it would be like without its restraining influence? Obviously, the cause is not Christianity but rather people moving away from it.

I know I shouldn't be responding to your ? but here goes. And don't come back attacking me all to Hell and back. I'm telling you the truth. Take it for what it is to you.

When a person either is born into Christianity, comes to Christianity by way of being reborn, or just simply has the calling to get baptized, you come into the light and spirituality of God's truth and favor and from then on, whatever you say, do, feel, think, is done in the spirit of truth. Thus, when you slip and sin, its all out in the open. When one slips in their marriage, nothing is going to be right until it is brought "out into the light" and discussed. When one faults his/her neighbor, or says or does whatever, becomes an alcoholic, kills some poor animal they thought was trying to kill their child and it was just protecting its own area, everything is done in truth and the truth has to be discovered to be righted.

Now, if that totally confuses you, sorry. But, Christianity is "the way, the truth and the life" and that is what people can't for some reason relate to reality. It's a gray area of logic and fact and in most cases, just gets lost in the translation and people just go off on each other.

Hope I helped allay your fears and confusion. e-mail me and I can further confuse you.

First do some research and you will find that once prayer was removed from the school that drop outs increase.....crime increased.........

Christianity is the source of our laws......it was the belief in the Bible that provided for the rights that you have today (assuming that you are in America)

I have no answer for the divorce other than my opinion:

People say that they are Christian sometime to indicate their belief or thoughts but it may not be their life style.

You can not judge the Christian faith on a single church or single denomination.....if you want to be a judge then read the Bible yourself objectively and then if you choose to judge then judge but be careful what and how you judge.....

I noticed that contemporary query and idea it used to be form of ordinary due to the fact that why wouldnt any individual think anything proper in entrance in their eyes if it used to be instantly out validated. But then what's the definition of validated? I get why folks are atheists. I dont get why folks are anti faith. I feel so much atheists are atheists due to the fact that they only cant think in anything like a God while there's no truly evidence of a God and each historic references to faith and God after time has a tendency to sound a bit of antiquated and primitive. I feel so much anti faith atheists have simply had a few dangerous studies with a few devout folks or a faith and feature a chip on their shoulder. I feel honestly only a few have died primarily as a result of faith that wouldnt have died had faith on no account existed. Every warfare and persecution dedicated via a organization or a country had the whole thing to do with greed and vigour and little or no to do with faith. Had faith on no account existed, all of the wars nonetheless could have occured, imo. They simply could were fought beneath a diff banner. People continually like to mention what number of dangerous matters had been performed via devout folks, however then in addition they reduction all of the well, too. Religion has performed plenty to aid humanity as good. Non christian gvts, like communism, that primarily made definite faith used to be ousted from the nation, have killed some distance way more folks within the historical past of the arena then so referred to as devout wars and persecution.

i'm not exactly what you'd call a Christian myself, but many people who claim to be Christians don't act like one. they divulge to vice and temptation all the time, yet when they make a myspace they check Christian in the religion box, so even though they act like fools, they think just because they claim to be Christian they'll be all set.

also, they are constantly oppressed, constantly. people proposing that christianity be a private practice only, Merry Christmas slowly being subdued and replaced with Happy Holidays, and attempting to take the God part out of the pledge of allegiance are just a few things. not to mention the media makes it a goal to make people think condescendingly about Christians, and sadly it's partly working. i know all that and i'm hardly even informed about the area at all.

conditions seem very different than they actually are the less you know about them.

It was the bible that laid the foundation for all modern law in the USA, England, etc.
If you doubt it, go see what all the first laws schools required...prayer the bible study. It was even in their school charters. All our courts opened with seeking Christ.

Today? You can't compare today's America with yesteryear. America is not as worthy as the people long ago. People today are for lack of a better word: FIREWOOD waiting to be thrown into the flames for toying around with Christ.
