Just in response to the answer regarding Science Diet cat food. It actually isn't good for your cat at all. It contains by-products and other grains that many cats are actually allergic to. You should avoid all foods that contain; wheat, corn, or soy. I personally feed my cat Blue Buffalo Spa Select cat food. It contains none of the above mentions ingredients and it also is human grade food so there are no by-products or sub-standard ingredients including different kinds of gluten that are in many cat foods. There are other brands out there too that have the same type of ingredients. I know that Petsmart has more of these options than Petco does too so maybe check them out. But please switch your cat over to a natural food without by products. These can contain bones, feathers, and even are allowed a minimal amount of non-food items such as flea collars ground up in them. If you want to research it more just google by products in cat food and i'm sure you'll find plenty of sites backing me up as well as at least one that will direct you to a page where it is defined exactly what some ingredients are and what they are allowed to include in a by product and still put it in animal food.

Be sure to take him to a vet first and have him check if you have not already done so. Kitten shots and neutered.
You need to feed him Kitten food only. Adult food is too hard on it stomach. Science Diet Kitten is what I feed all three of my cats with no problems. IInnova EVO Cat Food has no artificial preservatives and a high percentage (50 percent) of protein. The high protein level is beneficial, though some cats with kidney problems or other protein intolerances may need a lower percentage it is a bit more expensive. Be sure to read labels.
If you took the kitten away from it mother to young, you have to teach it how to clean it self. The momma cat will usually train them, but if you are the surrogate momma, it is your job.
I took a wash rag and dampen it in warm water and rang it out. I wipe the kitten paws (do this every time he goes in the little box) and whip the side of their faces, their sides, like a sponge bath and their butts (last). Do not have the rag wet, just damp. After you do this a few times the kitten will start doing it by himself. You do not want to get the kitten wet. He will get cold and get sick. You are using the rag like it would be the Mommy's tongue. Just have the rag damp and warm.
Good luck with you kitten.
You will enjoy lots of love from your cat for the next 18 to 20 years.
Here is a good web site about cats and kittens. Check it out.
Just look up kitten care.

Go with the stool sample to the vet. Give your cat ONLY wet but try chicken and turkey. I am giving you a url to check out why you want only wet and and the reasons. Also a link to find the right food in cans.
Also maybe kitty needs more litter in the box. Cats are often alergic to all fish and shrimp and beef.
When a cat has loose stools it gets all over the litter when they try and cover it up it gets on their feet and they don't clean up in the litter box. They get out and by the time a kitten sits down to clean up it is tracked all over. Solve the problem of the loose stools and your baby will be a wonderful love.
Feeding a cat a healthy diet is of the utmost importance for the good health of every cat.
Many people feel that dry is the best way to go. Vets feel it is the way to go. Why? Vets are taught very little about nutrition and they are taught what they know by the Pet Food Companies. The companies push dry as it is the very cheapest food in the world to make as they use fillers, vegetable protein and things that cats do not eat in normal life like veggies and fruits. Of course the veggies and fruits are NOT good for human consumption and thus they get it free or for pennies so the big suppliers can get rid of it.
Dry does not keep teeth clean. A cats jaw is made to grab, tear and shred. They have no chewing action. When a cat barfs he throws up the chunks of food. Sometimes the dry shatters but that doesn't rub on the teeth either. A vet told me that she had an elderly cat around 20 who had had wet food her whole life and never had a problem with her teeth, but she had a 7 month old kitten who had to have every tooth pulled since they were so bad he was sick.
Dry food causes diabetes, UTI's, Kidney problems and the list is to long to continue.
The proper food is a diet for an obligate carnivore. Remember you have never seen a lion chasing a biscuit. Your cat needs wet food of good quality. It should be high in protein and under 10% carb. You should not feed your cat fish or seafood more than 1 or 2 meals a week if that much as they become addicted to it and it is high in phosphorous and low in nutritional value.

Here is a chart of most wet foods. The good and the bad. Look for one that is high in protein and low in carbs. Fancy feast is a good middle of the road one, and the cheaper brands but still following the rule are much better than any dry ever could be. Wellness is on the higher end with higher cost. But you have good food.
It is cheaper to feed a cat the wet as they are filled up faster. Think if you are hungry and eat a bag of potato chips you are soon hungry but if you have a nice piece of chicken you are filled up longer. The same for a cat. I began adding small amount of water and mixing it in good for the meals and now add 1/4 cup water to 1/3 cup wet food. It is now like soup. It keeps the food from drying out and Cessan eats when she wants. She is a grazer and I let her be happy. She gained the weight she needed and then the weight gain stopped. If your cat is over weight he will lose weight on a wet diet.
Here is a link explaining very clearly cat nutrition and care. It is excellent and I think every new cat owner should have to read it first.

Hi, try putting more litter in the tray ,I but about 3 inches in my kittens litter box. Also giving kittens too much wet food will make there poo alot more runny, switch to dry food. One of the best dry foods is "Hills Science Plan" you can buy it over the counter at the vets,it's also recommend by them so it must be good. This is what I feed my 7 month old kitten with. If it doesn't clear up in a couple of days take him to the vets 'cause it could get serious.Good luck.

kittens will be kittens but cats will be cats. CLEAN the litter box DAILY. Some cats are just funny that way. (like mine ) And wean your kitten off of wet food WHO IS THE PET OF WHO?????, A full bowl of water and a full bowl of PURINA KITTEN chow 24/7 will help ease the change. Cut down on the wet food slowly, extend the Kitty's wet food time by an hour or two A DAY. The kitty will eat the dry food 24/7if available in a couple of weeks and be as happy and healthy as my two eight year old cats. (that I still call kitties )and can't live without!!! Kitties are just that way!!!!!

Do quit feeding wet food.
Don't feed Science Diet, Iams, Purina. It's unhealthy.
Look into Innova, California Natural, Artemis, Wellness and Felidae. All are great, all have websites.
Have you tried some sort of mat under the litter box. Those outdoor ones with the really scratchy stuff on them will clean some of the nastiness off before he can track it all over.
Also, if the diarrhea doesn't clear up in a week or so, go to the vet and have him treated for worms.

First, take him to the vet for a checkup and make sure he's healthy and free of worms.
Next, feed a good quality kitten food. Canned food is fine, as long as you choose a food that is primarily meat with low or no grains.
I'm betting that once you get the diarrhea cleared up, your kitty will start keeping himself clean.

Get him to the vet and make sure everything is OK. It might be food - or not.
Whiskas is a terrible food - look for a higher quality food - nothing from a grocery store. Try Felidae or California Natural instead.
Also my cat only eats high quality dry and is doing fine. Just make sure to choose a kitten formula

Don't feed him wet food anymore. Wet food often causes diarrhea. Just feed him dry food from now on and I promise he's diarrhea will get better. Also, make sure he is drinking plenty of water to help with dehydration due to the diarrhea.
I've never heard of the dry food you feed him, but I recommend Science Diet from your local pet store- it's high quality and is very good for them.

How old is your kitten? How long has he had diarrhea? Has he had a kitten wellness checkup with the vet yet?
Constant diarrhea is a problem and can be problems with the type of food and may be intestinal problems (including parasites).
Before you make any changes with his food, please take him to see his vet. Trust me, his diarrhea is as uncomfortable for him as cleaning up is for you!
Please make an appointment for him. Ask his vet what will be a good food for his age.
Purrs for you and kitten.
