Tanning would NOT help. It creates a higher risk of acne and pores. Unless theres a tanning shade that says SPF 15, oil-free and stops blemishes, then no, it's not ok for people who doesn't want acne.
I recommend Biore triple action toner. I tried it and it works magic for 3 days. All acnes and pores were gone and even when my face was clear, I kept using it and my face looked like I've just used concealer. (:
I haven't tried their facial washes yet because I must finish my Clearasil total control wash, which I do NOT recommend, whatever you do, do NOT try it.
Also, tanning with an actual sun creates a even more higher risk of acne and skin cancer. A lot of cool kids in my school got a little tan, and I think you've already got a "little" tan over the summer, so don't worry about it.
Hope this helps.

DO NOT tan with acne... you may further the problem and cause minor scarring. Go to your dermatologist before trying anything new. I've been using Retin-A as a spot treatment on my acne and darkest red marks. It makes the skin in those areas peel away, thus making the area red, but my acne has cleared and my red spots are disappearing. I wouldn't recommend using it on your whole face, though, unless you want to look like you have a sunburn.
Best of luck!
Edit - Also note that tanning is bad for your health. An article on the news today was about a 26-year-old girl who died of melanoma induced by tanning beds.

The sun does wonders for acne prone skin. There is also a facial tanning lotion that helps clear and prevent acne. Vanishing Act by Designer Skin.

Tanning sometimes helps and will help you look "healthier" but you should really speak to your dermatologist. And be careful about using products for acne and then tanning - you might get a reaction, or worse.
A friend of mine struggled for years with acne. She had to take some pill regiment for about a year (strong stuff) and it knocked it out of her system. Also, speak to your doc about making dietary changes and if they would help (I think she stopped dairy altogether because it was causing her really bad breakouts.)
Hang in there and speak to your doctor. Good Luck and I hope it works out for you!

Being in the sun seems to help my acne. But I don't tan or spend much time out there. You start to see the side effects later on...

Tanning for me no, but my doctor put me on birth control and my face cleared right up. Could be a hormonal imbalance.
