Think I'm joking? Check this out: http://www.cnn.com/2007/SHOWBIZ/TV/09/11/tv.emmys.griffin.ap/index.html

What do you think of this?

So Christians are upset because a "D-list" celebrity didn't credit Jesus for her low status?? I don't see why this needs to be censored. Now, Britney's performance on the VMA's, THAT should have been censored...my eyes!

I think that she would have been fine if she had not made the reference to Jesus exerting negative oral pressure on the award. If you take that little mis-step out I think that the remark was really funny and completely appropriate from a satirical perspective But leaving it in changes everything and makes her remarks really hard to defend.
There are some times when if you delete an obscenity or an offensive remark that a joke or anecdote will not stand on it's own; this is not one of those instances.
I personally think that the censorship is going to backfire and those who go up and accept awards will be asked specifically not to make ANY religious remarks

She should be able to say what she likes, as should anyone else, so long as it isn't immediately endangering anyone ("Fire!" in a theater) or directly inciting violence ("Everyone in this room needs to kill a gay person/black person/white person/atheist/whatever.") None of us have a right to demand we not be offended, and that includes the Christians. The Catholic Anti Defamation people don't have any business in this argument, anyway. Griffin--classless though she may have been in her statements--said nothing bad about Catholics. She made a very irreverent joke about the Christian deity, but that's not the same thing.

This is ridiculous. Censorship abounds when people's sensitivities get offended. They need to grow up. Apparently freedom of speech doesn't extend to everybody, just the ones thanking Jesus. And she's right. I don't remember ever seeing Jesus on her show.

sure, I agree. Salt n Pepa did an analogous element on the MTV music Awards. Pep mentioned "thank you Jesus", for triumphing an award for their "Shoop" music, that's approximately getting laid with a guy. God doesnt bless and reward you for glorifying intercourse and violence. I trust you.

Well, it wasn't just because she didn't thank Jesus. She pretty much dissed him (she did say, "suck it, jesus", which they didn't put into the article). That pretty much inflamed all the Roman Catholics, and they want her to apologize, blah blah blah. I agree with you, though. They shouldn't have censored it because she insulted Jesus. Freedom of religion and speech, remember?

Of course left-wing CNN is not giving you the WHOLE quote from Griffin. What she ACTUALLY said, when she held up her award was this: "Suck it, Jesus! This award is my god, now!"
"Suck it, Jesus" WAS that "off-color remark" about Jesus CNN was referring to.

Now what do you think? Offensive or not? Let's hypothesize for a moment. What if Griffin had said, "Suck it, Muhammed! This award is my god, now!" What do you think would happen next? Maybe riots? Would you still think what she said was ok? Or would you be saying she is an intolerant hate-monger?

Suck it, CNN! Fox is my news channel, now!

you "thank God" after a train wreck and people survive
you "thank Jesus" after the acadamy awards and you win

I always get those two mixed up
