Well I am somewhat dismayed and disappointed how the "greatest" country has bred so many skeptics and fools.
Too many of you are now scared of the media's hold over the nation, and the way it tends to brainswash people, that you now don't want to believe anything. I must agree, the little american TV i watch is disgusting and issuses are blown out of proportion. I am not surprised some of you act to deny it and think it's just another scare tactic.
However, please do not let your sad state of a country/media pollute your minds. Global warming is in fact a real phenomonon and it is our own doin through the use of all of these green house gas producing facilities/objects.
PLease do not be ignorant, forget about how sad your media is, and embrace what is fact. I choose not to watch tv as it is pollutive at best.
Are many of you none believers for the sake of rebelling against the media, or are you really so inclined and intelligent that you can go against many smart scientists?

The US is being used as it is the most influential country in the world.

Without any firm involvement of the US, climate action is very inefficient.

The large companies behind the denier groups were not scared at the Rio climate conference in 1992 at all since no mandatory targets were agreed on.
It is just later when the idea of a UN climate agreement (now the Kyoto Protocol) grew stronger that they started to react and try to deny conclusions to which most climate scientists at the time agreed upon.

In turn, they decided to heavily invest in US media to create a controversy and have their "delay tactic". This was eased by the fact that conspiracy theories are so popular in the US and on the top of that, they found a political party there who was already in very close relationship with oil companies.

TV caters for the lowest common denominator in intelligence and education so what do you expect? There are a few more responsible networks such as PBS but as the other networks are just concerned with ratings and advertising revenue, you cannot expect a serious presentation of major issues concerning the world we live in , unless it is has a 'celebrity' hooked into it somewhere. You see, global warming just doesn't do much for ratings and advertising $ .I quite agree with what you say though.

Stop calling the denialists skeptics, very few of them even come close to the most common definition of a skeptic.

The US media does tend to have a much more pronounced psuedosymmetry when reporting on scientific issues than most other countries media.

I know Global Warming is a fact, but I have a hard time believing that humans are involved. We don't have any type of temperature readings or how much ice was in the Arctic from the earlier times (most maps I've seen date back to 1890, I would believe humans were involved if we had maps from 1590) but we don't so the door sometimes always has to be open at least consider that it could be natural. & yes the media is garbage. Anything said about Global Warming is probably blown out of proportion.

I really notice the difference when I'm in other countries outside the U.S. The farther away the more noticeable it is. Its shocking how biased and egocentric the American perspective of the world really is. There are some exceptions, but you can't make informed decisions about the world from watching Geraldo Rivera.
