Would you be offended if there was you and a friend of a different nationality in a picture together and the person who owned the pic put on the back who was who...designated by race (ex: black, white, asian, mexican, indian, etc.) so that they would remember who you were?
Ex: Sarah Hughes (white), Shameka Johnson (black)

I wouldn't be offended any more than if I was labelled as the "girl" in the photo, but I see your point. It's a bit odd to designate it that way. Newspapers use designations of direction like "Top row, from left are:".

I don't know if that's any more racist than "girl" is sexist. Maybe. It's just stating the obvious, not making a value judgement. (They used "black" and "white", not "******" and "cracker").

I wouldn't be offended 'cause it's not like being called 'white' or 'black' is a slur. Of course if the person knows the names of the people in the picture then they should be able to know which one is which...you know? Unless they were both named Sarah or Shameka that way they can tell them apart, but since they both have different names and they know the names then there's no reason to write down their race. I still wouldn't be offended though, I just find it strange.

Offended, maybe not, but a bit surprised, yes. The solution to this person's dilemma is a simple, "Becky Adams (right), Maryjane Baker (left)" If the two people were of the same race, how else would they be deliniated?

Have a polite day!

Life is too short to be upset over that...because the friend owns the picture and in 50 years from now, what will it matter to anyone but the owner of the pic (she'll be the only one who has access to it and it won't even be a thought for you).

I personally would not be offended, but what is the purpose of indicating who is what race? I have always listed names by which order of appearance they are in from left to right. Doesn't that make sense??
