I'm a college student and I really want to work in international relations in the U.N. or something after I graduate (political science major). I'm already learning French, but what's another language that you think would be useful?

If I were to work at the UN I'd choose a language that not many people want to learn.

Spanish, French and German may be useful but you'll find a lot of people who speak them and so it will be a little more difficult to get a job.

Arabic and Chinese have become pretty important but many people are beginning to study them now.

A very useful language would probably be Korean, but it's extremely difficult. Maybe a language from Eastern Europe?
Russian, Romanian, Bulgarian, Polish, Hungarian?. I understand those are pretty difficult also.

It's not easy to give you advice. I think I'd choose Italian or Romanian. They are both Romance languages. Or perhaps Russian.

If it's just for fun and for the pleasure of speaking them, Spanish and German would be my choices.

EDIT: Aslade Averyn, Spanish is also one of the official languages of the UN.

Spanish, Because Latin America Haves A Lots Of Country, Which Means That Like 30 Countries Speak The Same Language. It's More Simple Learn 1 Language, And Not 10 Like In Europe, Because There's A Small Continent But They Have Too Many Languages.
And Spanish It's Taking Power.

Blessings.

Well, the official languages of the UN are French, English, Arabic, Russian, and Chinese. I would choose from one of those languages because they are the 5 most popularly spoken languages in the world. I think Chinese or Arabic would be the best to learn, but also the most difficult.

The official languages of the UN are English, Spanish, French, Chinese and Arabic.

That may cover quite a lot of situations if you master them all!

Mea culpa! Something was nagging. Russian is ALSO an official language. English and French are the working languages of the Secretariat.

Elvish utilizing Feanorian script. You might transcribe "Blessed Be" in keeping with the charts determined within the appendices of Lord of the Rings. Maybe have the script wrap round your arm like Frodo's ring.
