I have some strings around for my accoustic guitar that haven't been used but the packages don't say the string letter they're for and I've forgotten. I need to replace the G note. Is this the correct weight of string for that?

It would either be a heavy G string or a light D string. You can use it in a pinch, but strings are cheap, go get a new set.

it depends on the general guage of your strings it should match in proportion to the other strings sounds like a second string to me but if you use super slinkies or a really light gauge that could change . usually you can just eyeball it in coorespondence with your other string gauges already in use .we used to move the strings up and use two first strings before they started making light gauge strings so we could more easily bend notes on the third or "g" string . if you check a few packages they will tell the exact guages of the strings you are buying .here is a gauge chart that shows the variance between string gauges
