Epson salts are a natural pain reliever, and are especially helpful in ingrown toenails, as they help to soften the skin up.
You can bathe in them to soothe achy joints and other various pains, too.

I don't know that it gives permanent relief, but it softens the nail that is overgrown and poking into the toe beside the nail bed. That makes it hurt not so much.

it eases the pain cause the water and salts make it softer. if you can stand the pain, cut the nail then. otherwise it will come back when it hardens up again.
