We live in the flight path too...so we hear them a lot. I have PTSD..but not because of 9/11....still...I don't wanna die..esp that way. Turn your radio or tv on louder..and have a fan going...and sing outloud. Maybe you'll drown out the noise. You think it might keep you awake...but eventually you'll get used to it (tv etc) and go to sleep. Put the timer on so that it will go off after you go to sleep....or..keep it on all night. If it still bothers you..just say a prayer every time and sing a church song. Get earplugs. Put a tape recorder beside your head and play a tape. If you feel the plane's.vibration....just try to pretend that you have a bed that vibrates.,,try to fool your brain. Can't think of anything else. Take a sleeping pill. I take half mg. of risperdal for panic and fear..that might help you too. Sweet dreams.

It could be because of 9/11. Did this start right after 9/11. We're all paranoid about something at one point or another. For a while I was paranoid about getting my house teepeed after it happened 10 times in 3 weeks. Whenever I heard a noise I'd run to my window.
Do something that keeps you calm whenever you hear the sound of a plane. for me as long as my hands are busy I'm calm. I made sure my keys were always near me or there was a small toy in my hands.

You're not the only one who is paranoid, trust me. At some point everyone has had a fear at some point in their life. The only thing I would recommend is go talk to someone about it. If you're in college you can see a college counselor which is JUST like seeing a therapist, but for free and it's completely confidential and your parents wouldn't see that you went, nor would any peers or teachers. I've done that a few times when I've had fears or anything going on that was too much for me to handle. They can help you get over your fears by giving you guidance on how to deal with the fear when it is brought on. If you're not in college and you're younger, then talk to your parents about it, they can help you. Or go to a local clinic and try to find a therapist.

When I was 10 a man tried to break into our house in the middle of the night and was banging on the door with a ski pole...it was so terrifying. I'm 20 now and I've learned to deal with it, but for a long time I couldn't stay home alone to sleep and every little noise i heard, I had to check out the window to see if there was a "bad guy" outside. It helps to talk to someone. Now I live alone in my own apartment and I've learned how to talk myself down from a state of paranoia and panic when I'm scared. Good luck!

Honestly if I were you I would see someone. I mean sure other people have the same problem you do. I think you just need to find something that calms you. Keep yourself entertained so that you don't think about it. I get scared too sometimes because of 9/11 but I try to keep it under control. And if it bothers you turn up the tv or the stereo so you won't hear it. Just don't think about it so much and relax. If this isn't helpful well I'm sorry. I tried.

it sounds like maybe you're having a strong reaction to what happened on 9/11. it's perfectly normal to have strong feelings about what happened especially if it personally affected you in the way of losing someone. my suggestion would be to talk to a therapist or a doctor. they will be able to talk you through your fears and give you something to help keep the paranoia at bay. it sounds like you should really talk to someone about it though. Good luck.

This is not a common response. You could see a counselor to work on getting over your anxiety. It could be very limiting.
