Depending on the community, some Sephardi Jews followed his ban, though many, such as the Temeni (Yemenite) and Moracai (Morrocan) communities only stopped the practice of multiple marriages a couple of centuries ago (probably since they were embedded in cultures in which it was the norm.

To this day there are Jews emigrating to Israel who have more than one wife. It is allowed, but no more wives can be added. Most of them are from Africa and the Arab countries.
