Recently I have been having trouble sleeping. I usually fall asleep and wake up around 2 hours later and the never fall back asleep. And then have to get up for work. I'm a zombie.

So a couple of times I have tried taking 2 different brands of over the counter sleep medicines and I don't fall asleep at all!
I just lay there in a crazy coma like state. It's a nightmare.
I would love some help with this.

i sorta just learnt to live with it... cause there aint much else i can do about it. but if you havent tried perscribed pills... go to yer doc and try some...

Everyone adapts to sleeping pills a different way. Also there's more to falling asleep with sleeping pills than the pills.
Maybe you should try the maximum strength Melatonin. I think it's 5mg. Also avoid doing anything in your bed besides sleeping. So don't read, watch tv etc in your bed. This worked for me. I slept on the floor for a few nights then my body really just wanted the bed and I fell asleep instantly.
you can also try getting your body to adapt to a sleep cycle. For one night don't take anything. if you're a zombie in the morning just keep yourself awake with caffeine until noon. Then just let your body tire itself off until bedtime and the next day sleep at the same time.

It's the same for me. I think they work the opposite on some people. And Tylenol PM makes my legs hurt so bad it keeps me awake. Try benedryl or Melatonin. I think I've become immune to benedryl now...it used to help me. I don't know what to do now. The last few nights I didn't get to sleep..or even feel sleepy till 5 or 5:30. Whatever you do ...don't eat chocolate before bedtime..I think it must have caffeine in it. That's the only thing I can think of why I was so wide awake.

Over the counter sleeping pills arent really potent enough to put you asleep, or atleast asleep for very long. Have a chat to your doctor about it and they might prescribe you something a bit stronger to help you out for a while, just be careful, some can be very addictive!

Yes chocolate has caffeine in it there are a lot of things that have caffeine in it. Cola's have caffeine in them. You should try to alter what you eat at night if you're eating things with caffeine in it. If you can't figure out what going on talk to your doctor and make sure that they get the whole picture diet and all. They may be able to give you something that won't leave you feeling groggy the next day. My doctor gave me something for my anxiety that help me to sleep that does not make me drowsy the next day. It may be anxiety that's causing you to stay awake.
