Hello, so few weeks ago, I went to a dentist to get a check-up on my teeth to get braces. I need to take out 4 teeth to properly mount the braces.I told her that I have thyroid problem and she told to me to find out and make sure that it's okay before i do anything with my teeth. Will there be any affects on my thyroid if i get braces? thanks

I don't believe that I have heard of any problems (and can't find any complications noted online ( - see --- http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/hypothyroidism/DS00353/DSECTION=2) with patients who have a thyroid problem having braces. Perhaps the dentist is concerned that any medication you might be taking could cause more bleeding than average when the four teeth are taken out. I would try to clarify this with the dentist or your endocrinologist. Good luck!

I can't imagine there is a problem. I have medical problems and the dentist just wants a clearance so that they aren't doing anything that could be a problem. So you tell the doctor (call) and ask if they would write a note clearing you for dental work.
