My hubby's uncle tells people he is a retired General of the U.S. Army and was even married in a full General's uniform with tons of ribbons and medals that he never earned, but he was discharged from the Army as a Private...

Actually it DOES matter... at least to the Military men and the families of those who really served, risked their lives, and perhaps died to defend America's freedoms.

It matters SO MUCH that Congress has finally just enacted a law against such impostors. Maybe you should point this out to your hubby's uncle... and tell him if he persists, he could end-up in prison. The FBI would be more than happy to "validate" his Military Service Record.

Then again... perhaps he has a mental illness? It sounds as if he really could benefit from PSYCHO-therapy, having such an inferiority complex that he has to pretend he is someone he is not.

Contact the nearest office of the FBI. He is in violation of the Stolen Valor Act of 2007 and faces monetary fines and imprisonment. They had a recent case of a discharged Private in New York City who had been posing as a Lieutenant Colonel. He even attended a lot of military-rlated balls and events at the Soldiers, Sailors, Marines and Airmans Club in mid-Manhattan, in full uniform with phony medals and decorations.

If he is not doing it to benefit, but to just brag forget about it, he is a harmless crank. Yes, it upsets me greatly that people feel the need to lie about themselves to seem more important. Is it worth the trouble you will cause with your husbands family? If they know he is lying about all of this why don't they put a stop to what he is doing by letting everyone in on the secret (example "Oh Joe we know you were a general that was about the same time I won Miss Universe")

Report it to the FBI; it’s a federal crime to illegally wear a military uniform and medals the fine can be up to one year in a federal prison without parole and a fine of up to $10,000.

depends on what hes using that status for, if he is getting any thing more than respect out of it. then you CAN report him to the nearest military center, if that happens to be a recruiting center then ask them how to go about it.

i don't know if its worth the effort, or the irreparable damage that it will cause to his pride, integrity, and family relations.

how old is he? if hes old then don't bother(like 50+)

How old is he? Is he trying to deploy anyone to another country to kill others? Is he using this status to reap any government money?

Just shut up, I'm sure you lie about your weight!
