Freemasonry is not a secret society, EVERYTHING is available on many website (both masonic and anti-mason) and books. You can read all of the texts, learn all of the handshakes, gestures, words, etc...
There is no conspiracy or plot to rule the world, all of that is pure fantasy from the minds of those with too much time on their hands and nothing better to do; although some of it makes for good reading and does in fact sell a LOT of books and DVDs...
to some other responses:
* Freemasonry is not trying to overthrow Christianity, it is NOT a religious organization. Not sure why a Christian would be concerned if Freemasonry were trying to overthrow atheism, though...
* i don't know satan so i don't know if he hides his stuff, but freemasons don't hide there stuff, it is out there for anyone to read/learn phoenixmasonry.org (you can find full texts online to read there)
* http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dark_ages this was a time when the Church killed people for thinking anything they did not tell them to think, not the other way around...
* sorry that you have dealt with racist freemasons, but don't condemn the fraternity for what a small minority are like (after all there are racist christians out there, the KKK is a Christian organization, Hitler was a Christian... and these things aren't limited to Freemasons or Christians...)
* the Da Vinci Code is a prime example of the fantasy I noted earlier
* Freemasonry is not a cult, you have to ask to join, join of your own free will and you can leave at any time
* they are not secretly ruling to world, they spend their free time providing over $2 billion worth of chartible relief each year just in the USA in terms of free hospitals, youth and retirement homes, anti-drug programs, etc...

Freemasonry isn't secret. Not like it used to be. Sure they might have a few rituals here and there that they don't openly reveal. But theres plenty of websites, books, movies, etc. that show HUGE amounts of freemasonry info. Why can't you just walk up to the lodge and demand entrance? Because, 1. In order for you to become a Mason, you must believe in a Supreme being. 2. You must be of "good repute" meaning you haven't done anything and your morally sound. 3. You go through the process of applying, interviewing, your Three degrees and then your basically done. I don't see why you think its secret. Its not. Its one of the best organizations in the world in my opinion. (THEY ARE NOT, NOT, NOT TRYING TO TAKE OVER THE WORLD!!!!!)

Freemasonry is centered in the heart of the Bible Belt. It is contradictory to many religious beliefs but uniquely enough is in fairly close union with the Mormons and their tablets that came from that same basic area and era. We know how the Mormons were run out of the Bible Belt and the same would have happened to the Freemasons if they had been anything but secret. By being a secret society and not actually referring to themselves as a religion they have managed to remain in the Bible Belt and to the best of my knowledge have been able to live in peace without blood shed. I think there is something positive to be said for that. I am Catholic.

The Freemason's gave you some very interesting, intellegent answers but it still seems to be a big secret society. I do plan on looking further into it.
3years ago, I was in Ft Chaffe Arkansas and I was told by some locals not to be on a certain side of Albert Pike Rd after the sun went down.... (serious)

Simple answer: It isn't.
As cl_freemason has said and as I have said and Bondi_freemason has said all the "secrets" are available on the internet and many have been published in books. All the ritual is so easy to get hold of it is untrue, see any masonic book shop many have web sites.
Freemasonry is no more secret than your local golf club or private members club.

- The Illuminati ceased to exist in 1785 - There is no 'Reptillian Race.' - Planet X is a bad movie from the 50s. - Freemasonry is the world's oldest fraternity and largest philanthropy. They have nothing in common.

Secret society intended on, according to Albert Pike, the chief Freemason of all Freemasons, to overthrow Christianity and atheism. Look it up.
Freemasonry is working towards a "New World Order", which is antichrist coming into power.

I could tell you, but then I'd have to kill you ;)
It's like a secret club for adults with way too much free time. They're probably secretly ruling the world.

Secrecy helps to insure that Masons can trust other Masons in a time of need.
