I have hunted with both in states that allowed and for short range I love buck shot from my full choke but the range max is 45 yards with my gun!
Patterned 75% in a 12" circle at longer range I still had pellets in the kill zone but also had fly aways that hit elsewhere in non lethal area's(pattern spread was to much to be desired)!!!
With the rifled tube slugs would be the choice if ranges are out beyond 45 yards or better yet buy the fully rifled barrel for your gun!

Hey, I know that buckshot will work, but I have experienced total meltdowns from using buckshot also. Like the time a nice 6 point buck decided to walk by my ground stand at no further than 20 yds. I shot once for the heart and cut him a flip. he hit the ground and got back up, so I shot him again this time in the neck, he spun around and was gone. So I thought o.k. I'll just give him about 25 minutes and then go search for him. I found one drop of blood where he dropped the first time and that was it. I ended up having two friends help me look for him, but no he was gone probably 2 miles away bleeding to death. That is a complete waste of time and a deer, it won't always happen like that, but still I would strongly suggest you too use a slug 50 to 60 yds or less = a good clean kill and even if he runs it won't be far

Those will both do the job,you will get more distance from the rifled slug than you would buckshot.I was dead set against buckshot for years,i heard alot of stories about people losing and wounding deer while using it.Two years ago I started hunting a thick cedar swamp and a friend suggested that buckshot would be a good choice for hunting such thick cover,he was right,i shot a deer at 30 yards with 00 buck and he was dead before he hit the ground. The rifled slug will extend your range,My friend shot a deer with a slug at 70 yards and it dropped instantly. There both good choices if you take into account the type of terrain your hunting, any shots past 40 yards should be taken with a rifled slug anything under 40 yards and use whatever your comfortable with

Before you choose you need to check your State's Hunting Regulations to find out what is legal. Rifled Slugs should be fine to use, but Buckshot isn't legal to use in all states........NOTE #00 Buckshot is 9 -.32 caliber Pellets.

They're both fun to use. Target practise with them both, you may prefer one over the other
