I guess it is because they are scared because it is something they dont understand. It is really hard for an atheist to be told 'when you die, you're going to hell', to them it is like an insult, a put-down and then because of what has been said they feel that they are being judged by people like them who believe in alot of mumbo jumbo and are no better off than them. i think between christians and athiests there is a lack of clear communication because each feels judged by eachother and there is a creation of a class hierachy in which athiest people feel inferior because their chosen life is in christian terms a lower race they feel like christians see themselves as superior in the human race.
I believe that this divide in humanity goes back to our perception on life.
for example:
some people are practical in terms of using their bodies and hands for labour and entertainment.
some people are logical in terms of using their heads and minds for either spirituality or science.
i have a friend who cannot focus on a guided visualisation unless she can see it, whereas my mind follows and creates the scene with ease.
some people just have to see it with their eyes physically to believe it because that is their nature.
others can see it in their minds and hearts and that is enough for them to believe.
I hope i've helped you to understand, and i hope my explaining wasnt too bad, however you can ask me on anything if you like!

You know what doesn't sound good? All your loved ones who DON'T make it to paradise with you because they had the wrong religion or the wrong denomination or didn't pray enough or at some point just quit believing in any kind of God. Could you truly be happy, knowing that someone you really cared about is burning and screaming and bleeding and puking in the flames of hell for all eternity? I know you don't like to think of such things and you imagine that everyone you ever loved will be with you, but what if they don't make the grade? How can there be happiness as long as hell exists?

I like your question. I'm a christian myself and I think sometimes other christians may come across very headstrong and demanding which is not what we are supposed to be about, but as long as we just plant the seed maybe non believers wouldn't be so mad and irritated. If they would just say do you believe in God/Jesus and they say no, then ask "would you like to" and if they say no, then leave them alone. I don't think we should say "you're going to hell if you don't believe what I do" that would make anyone mad. I believe that even if the first person God uses to get to them maybe it will take 5, 6 or 50! And if they still don't want to, then that's them. Only God can do the work. You've done your job as a christian just to plant the seed and that's all He asks you to do.

Why do all christians get mad and irritated when atheists talk to them about the fact there is no god? If we didn't talk to you about reality then that would mean we don't care about you. Yeah I know you say "mind your own business don't worry about me" but most of us are good people and we just want to show you what is reality and if you choose to believe it then Great we did what we could. If you choose not to believe then that's on you. We don't hate you at all just want more people to find happiness. I know your thinking I am Happy I just need delusion but without delusion it's a totally different kind of Happy. I am looking forward to live I am already 35 and when that day comes to end living, I know I had live a fulfilling life. When you die your just dead and not going to imaginary places, tell me who actually came back from there to tell you there is such a place? To me that doesn't sound so good, especially for the kids who had lived and being indoctrinated with delusion of good death and sucking up some imaginary sky daddy so they will want to die early.
If babies die early because it is for people to start believing in the cruelty of this imaginary sky daddy and believe that sucking his @ss for the rest of eternity is good, then these babies died in vain.
(By the way, based on your twisted logic, then should all christians wear babies instead of cross on their neck since these babies REALLY sacrifices themselves to ask you to believing in sky daddy?)

Because you might as well be talking about the Easter Bunny, or the troll under the bridges, God does not exist, he was made up by the church lords to control the masses, to keep them from thinking so that society is bound by an obession the believe, why don't people just use the brain they were born with. God did not create us, our Mom's and Dad's when they progreated. God was invented by man and now man fears that which he has created. Religion is the biggest scam and biggest money maker of all time. We don't get upset, we laugh, becaue we know how ludcrist it is to believe in something which does not exist. Why does God never show himself to us? Why does he allow suffering/war/pain? Why does he allow some people to be billionaries and others to be painstakingly poverty striken? Why does he allow animal abuse to occur? Why does he allow murder? Why does he allow crime/victimazation? Kidnappings? Torture? Famine? Why???? Because he does not exist, that crap happens because that's the way human nature is. People, Human beings, Homo Sapines created this world and made it what it is today. The Big Bang created the Universe? The periodic Table of elements exists, it has been proven, Scientists can test for chemicals, we can see them. We can see evidence of the BIG Band, fossils of Dinosaurs, the meteor hitting the earth. This is evidence and the only thing that exists. You might as well be believeing in Knomes and faires and Unicorns.

The same reasons that Christians get mad if atheists try to tell them that Christianity is a bunch of superstition.
Oh, and Tony? The board is called Religion and Spirituality. Not Christianity. Most atheists I know are spiritual in some sense or another, and there are other religions in this world other than Christianity. Atheists have just as much a right to be here as Muslims, Jews, agnostics, Wiccans, etc. Don't be so narrow-minded.

lol sounds like this I know I shouldn't but since I care so much why not hang oneself and take paradise now ? Is that not your level of logic . Dying is not supposed to sound good my friend but that is the fact the end not good not bad not anything once your dead it's all over . Is the logic of a two year old really that difficult to understand and accept .
And the funny thing is there really are many altruistic atheists who feel sympathy for the poor deluded Christian and would like to bring them to their senses . is that frustrating or must you have anger to satisfy your soul. the god of death is the stupidest lie ever perpetrated .put your premium on life there is nothing more .
peace

This atheist certainly doesn't get "mad," or even angry, when someone talks to me about an invisible, supernatural voyeur living somewhere up in the clouds. It fascinates me. It's rather like spending time among primitive peoples. Write that down, Yank, you can make use of it in a film. These people are eating dog, smoking hash, and praying to a stone statue of a milk cow they call Bog, or Cog, or Fog, or Hog, or Jog, or Log, or Wog--their English is faulty.

As an Atheist, I don't get mad when people talk to me about God. Actually, something quite opposite usually happens. Often, my question and logical analysis of their view will begin to make them angry, especially when I have questions they can't answer or point out obvious holes in their logic. Even on a forum like this, I have gotten several hate filled email messages from people who were angry at me for questioning or criticizing their theistic beliefs. But I don't think its my fault that they can't defend the ideas that they so wholeheartedly believe in.
As for you talking about it being undesirable for death to be end of us and that you look forward to death because you'll be with God, I think this shows that your beliefs on the matter are based on wishful thinking instead of any rational or empirical thought. But in reality, there is no verifiable evidence of an afterlife, and people die, sometimes when their 90, sometimes before they can even talk, but that's life. And I can accept that without making up things to comfort myself. Why can't you?

Why do Christians get mad when I tell them I'm happy being an atheist? That I don't need a dewy-eyed hereafter to justify living a moral upstanding life and I can do it all on my own and for the sheer pleasure of being a good person and not for the cookies and milk I might get in happy bunny land after I'm dead.
