I heard of 2 observatories in the Los Angeles area. The one in Griffith Park and another one at Mount Wilson. I basically would want to find out which one is better. What do they both have to offer? The one at Mount Wilson seems to be located in a really nice area. But I don't really know what there is to do there. Also, does any of these obervatories also have really cool shows or something at night time? I would really appreciate any helpful detailed information.
thanks

When you asked this same question yesterday I told you that Mt. Wilson was mainly a research facility, and Griffith Park was the better one. Did you think I was lying to you?

Griffith Park is newly redone and very visitor friendly, plus there's a zoo, picnic grounds and hiking trails nearby. When I last visited during one of their "soft" grand opening previews, all of the kinks hadn't been ironed out and it was still a marvelous experience!

The other observatory I'd recommend would be on Mt Palomar. It's south, toward San Diego, but set in a gorgeous area and visiting the site is a real treat as well.

Well Stew they aren't going to let you play with their telescopes...
1, Griffith is the best for the public because they have a cool show at the Oschin Planetarium. If you become a FOTO member (Friend of the Observatory) you get priority seating which means you don't have to wait in line. Reservations are still required to go to the Griffith. You can get good pics of the Hollywood sign and downtown up there if it is not overcast/smoggy. They have a really good cafeteria and gift shop. To me the planetarium show is the high light.
2. Mt. Wilson--restricted access--used by UCLA astronomy Department.
3. Mt Palomar--restricted access--used by Cal Tech astronomy Department...
I think it is worth going...
