Orthodox call her blessed also.
Protestant should admit that she is blessed in her Son and that she has been a blessing to all believing Christians since she said yes to God

According to Luke 1:42 Mary will be called blessed, but not The Blessed Mother.

For further elaboration see Matthew 27:51 and Hebrews 6:20 - 8:9 to understand why most Protestants accord Mary no special intercessory power.

q: why is it only catholics refer to Mary as blessed mother?

a: Evidently only the Catholic Church trains members to think of Mary in those terms.

This whole attitude is based on the Catholic's attitude about the Mother of Jesus. What folk are supposed to do and what they actually do, is two different stories. I think that we will all do better in our lives when we believe that "much respect" is due Mary, the mother of Jesus Christ. Why the whole world doesn't call her "blessed" is beyond my knowledge. What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us? - Romans 8:31. The Lord daily loadeth us with benefits, even the God of our salvation. Selah. - Psalm 68:19. - Peace, Love and God Bless.

Many times 'blessed' describes people in the Bible..

Mary was highly favored by God and blessed among women but no where have I seen her referred to as Blessed Mother except in Catholic liturgy.

The catholics refer to Mary as blessed because she was the one woman blessed by God to bear the holy Child(Jesus) and that also because she was a virgin when the holy spirit came upon her so she could be a mother.

Because catholics have a little bit of a distorted view of Mary. Blessed among women, very much so. She got to give birth to Jesus. But she was still only a woman.
Part of the 1st commandment says 'You shall have no other gods before Me'. The 2nd says 'You shall not make unto yourself any graven images and you shall not bow down to them or serve them'. Now that's not really that confusing. Pretty straight forward. God directly prohibits us from having these statues of saints and mary and all that in the church and in any part of worship. It destracts from Christ and who we should actually be praying to.

Anyone ever see the Pope bowing to the statue of Mary????Google it.

Yes it is in the bible that all generations call her blessed and truly she was. She carried the Saviour of the world in her womb. But read on to what Jesus replys. Luke 11:27-28
And it came about while He said these things, one of the women in the crowd raised her voice, and said to Him, "Blessed is the womb that bore You, and the breasts at which You nursed." BUT HE SAID,"ON THE CONTRARY, BLESSED ARE THOSE WHO HEAR THE WORD OF GOD, AND OBEY IT."

...The Roman Church as taken "her" to a place where Scripture never, ever has "her"... The Roman Church has a doctrine of "chanting" to "her" while holding an "icon-beaded, trinket" called a "rosary"... totally non-Scriptural... "they" too, refer to "her" as the mother of God... Clearly against Scripture...but the dogma's and doctrines and bulls of the Roman Church over the centuries have held their followers in "religious bondage" by many, many un-scriptural mis statements... Was she "blessed"...? absolutely... is she "Holy", absolutely not... she was a human woman who had "4" more children by her husband Joseph... The Roman Church also has a "skewed" doctrine of the "Assumption of Mary"... a fantastic story of her being called up into Heaven....There is absolutely no Scriptural foundation for this in any Book of Gods Word... The Roman Church has hundreds of "special" books and doctrines to accentuate their extra biblical revelations... beware of the false Prophets... Read and study the Scriptures, not the doctrines of Rome... Shalom

Blessed for her willingness to go through the pregnancy for our Savior.
Nowhere in the Bible does it elevate her to idol status as a saint to prayed to, either.
